Tutor Position Description

Basic Function:

This position is responsible for providing mentoring, leadership, and tutoring services to students in temporary need of assistance with classroom subject matters. Tutors will be responsible for providing a safe and congenial environment for students to learn and must have the ability to maintain sensitive, confidential, and privileged information. Must be able to take instruction from teachers and implement that information/advice into tutoring practices without further instruction from the teacher.

Terri Wallingford Gingras, Site Manager

Duties and Responsibilities:

90% Work with students that are requiring temporary assistance with classroom subject matters. Tutoring is designed to give specific additional or remedial instruction only and is not designed as an ongoing assistance to students. Will assist students with anything the classroom teacher asks of you as a tutor.

5% Assist GEAR UP staff in providing services and leadership when deemed necessary.

5% Perform related duties as required

• Understand and carry out oral and written directions with minimal accountability controls.

• Maintain a safe and congenial environment in the extended learning site(s).

• Establish and maintain a cooperative working environment and relationships

• Interpret and effectively communicate subject matter.

• Maintain the security of sensitive, confidential, and privileged information.

Physical Requirements

• Must be able to work variable hours.

• This type of work will involve standing, walking, and bending down the majority of the day in classrooms.

• Able to climb stairs.

• Perceiving the nature of sound, near and far vision, depth perception, providing oral information, the manual dexterity to operate business related equipment, and handle and work with various materials and objects.
