Dedicated to exclusively serving the needs of at-risk and homeless youth (age 16.5-24), the Youth Opportunity Center (YOC) provides a safe place for young people to connect with services. The role:

The Youth Opportunity Center (YOC) Meal Program Coordinator has primary responsibility for overall operation of the YOC Kitchen and Meal Program. The YOC Meal Program Coordinator is responsible for planning and directing food preparation in the kitchen and is responsible for all components of preparing and serving food at the Youth Opportunity Center. The YOC Meal Program Coordinator will plan, schedule, and facilitate educational opportunities for IHYC clients to connect to the community and grow their knowledge including field trips, volunteer opportunities, and cooking classes.


What you will need:

  • Two years of commercial cooking experience is required.
  • Bachelor’s degree in a culinary-related field is preferred.
  • Experience working with youth is a plus.

What you will do:

  • Plan, prepare and serve meals Monday-Friday at the Youth Opportunity Center.
  • Estimate amounts and costs for required supplies, such as food and ingredients.
  • Order and procure food/supplies needed to ensure efficient operation at the facility.
  • Inspect supplies, equipment, and work areas to ensure conformance to sanitation and food safety standards.
  • Plan and develop recipes and menus, taking into account such factors as seasonal availability of ingredients, the likely number of customers, and budgetary constraints.
  • Help volunteers in the preparation, cooking, garnishing, and serving of food. Communicate volunteer and donation needs with the Development Coordinator.
  • Arrange for kitchen equipment purchases and repairs.
  • Make a priority to preserve, can, or dehydrate all surplus produce.
  • Check the quality of raw and cooked food products to ensure that safety standards are met.
  • Check the quantity and quality of received products.
  • Record production and operational data on specified forms as required for the YOC Meal Program.
  • Perform kitchen administrative duties.
  • Maintain a positive and professional approach with program participants and volunteers.
  • Communicate and work as a team with Youth Opportunity Center staff, other IHYC staff, and volunteers.
  • Meet with the IHYC development team to discuss menus for IHYC fundraisers and help prepare/serve food for IHYC events as needed.
  • Plan, schedule, and facilitate educational opportunities for IHYC clients to connect to the community and grow their knowledge including field trips, volunteer opportunities and cooking classes

$35,000/year
