Salary Information
Wages are $20.13/HR at Step 1 to $30.33/HR at Step 20 with consideration for experience. Job Duties
Obtain diagnostic information from the equipment operator. Perform tests and determine what parts need to be repaired or replaced. Notify the Service Manager if the problem is serious. Inspect, diagnose and repair the electrical and mechanical systems of automotive equipment, heavy trucks and construction equipment. This includes fuel, exhaust, brake and cooling systems, gasoline, propane and diesel engines, transmission, hydraulic and all other mechanical systems. Test machinery for proper operation after work is completed. Obtain verification from operator that problem is corrected. Utilize Laptop Diagnostic software and computer. Operate metal fabrication tools and equipment including drill press, hydraulic press, cylinder hones, grinders, air tools and lathe. Test equipment such as hydraulic flow and pressure gauges, vacuum gauge, volt meter, ohmmeter, dwell meter, etc. Properly read and use precision gauges such as inside and outside micrometers, dial indicators, calipers, depth gauges, etc. Operate arc welder, braze welder and cutting torch. Design and fabricate special tools needed for equipment repair. Perform tune-ups on gasoline and propane engines, valve adjustments on gas, propane and diesel engines.
Minimum Qualifications

Must have a High School diploma or the equivalent.
Must have the ability to properly read and use precision gauges.
Must have three (3) years of verifiable experience as a line mechanic in the repair and maintenance of diesel and gasoline engines as well as hydraulic, air, electrical, cooling and drive-train systems. A certificate in Diesel Mechanics from a Vocational-Technical School may be substituted as one (1) year of experience.
Must have a valid Class A Commercial Driver License with air brake, tractor/trailer, and tanker endorsements or complete the Salina Area Technical College Commercial Truck Driver Training program administered by the Saline County Road and Bridge within six (6) months of employment.
Must be insurable under Saline County"s fleet insurance policy.
Must be physically able to perform the job including lifting at least 50 lbs.
Must supply own hand tools.
