ConMet is looking for a Mechanical Engineer – Wheel End Design to support key growth areas. In this role, you will lead design work from the concept stage through production release. You will conduct and analyze structural, thermal, and dynamic FEA as part of the development process. In the role of Mechanical Engineer – Wheel End Design you will be responsible for performing engineering and analysis work associated with developing new products and maintaining existing products per internal and external customer requirements. You will provide detailed analysis which is critical in guiding the design and development process.

This role requires working in an office environment (not hybrid or remote) at ConMet's corporate headquarters in Vancouver, Washington. Non-local candidates must be open to relocation (relocation assistance available).

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Develop new products and modify existing products per external and internal customer requirements. This includes, but is not limited to:
    • Generate 3D models and 2D drawings with support from designers
    • Ensure compliance with customer inputs
    • Conduct and analyze structural, thermal, and dynamic FEA along with test results, incorporating into feedback loop to ensure product requirements and acceptance criteria are met
    • Generate analysis reports for design and verification activity documentation
    • Determine appropriate tolerances, critical characteristics, and material specifications
    • Design/specify subcomponents
    • Create and maintain DFMEA and DVP&R
    • Incorporate design for manufacturing best practices, packaging, and plant feedback
    • Document complete design process and results through design review
    • Release necessary drawings and specifications through ECN process
  • Write and maintain engineering specifications
  • Root cause analysis and problem solving

Required Experience

  • Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering.
  • Knowledge of mechanical design principles, finite element analysis, engineering documentation, statistical analysis, and quality systems
  • Minimum two years of post-college experience in relevant field. Engineering internship experience a plus.

Preferred Experience

  • Creo, Catia, NX, or Solidworks 3D Modeling and Drawing
  • Teamcenter
  • Castings manufacturing and finishing process knowledge, understanding of plating techniques, familiarity with inspection and measurement methods
  • Experience developing and maintaining quality documentation including process flow diagrams, PFMEA’s, DFMEA’s, control plans, APQP checklists, and work instructions
  • Commercial vehicle experience, especially vehicle chassis, suspensions, and brakes
