Job Summary and Qualifications

We are seeking a(n) Medication Management Technician who will be responsible for processing medication refill requests, assisting the patient with medication order assistance and troubleshooting. Tech will support to the clinical staff, care team, pharmacy, provider and patient, as the need requires, in regards to medication management and processing.

What you will do:

  • Support practices via providing efficient medication management. Assist in the safe, secure, efficient, accurate and timely ordering of medications. Navigate patients through prescription process. Interact and troubleshoot prescription issues with internally and externally involved persons. Troubleshoot patient medication issues. Prioritize multiple tasks efficiently, addressing incoming inbasket workques and other prescription correspondence daily. Initiate refill requests. Screen refill requests for appropriateness via electronic medical record chart audit. Triage and address incoming patient needs, utilizing S.T.A.R. (Stop, Think, Act and Review) when dealing with atypical or high-risk situations. Serve as medication management resource for the practice, assisting, staff and providers with medication related questions or concerns. Serve as a educational resource for patients, and as a practice liaison for patients and pharmacies. Stay abreast of pharmaceutical formulary, database tools, new medications, contraindications and EMR functionality, etc. Be able to speak to patient’s financial responsibility (understand copays, coinsurance, deductibles, diagnosis ICD10 codes and pharmacy benefits plans). Maintain knowledge of patient assistance programs and refer when necessary.
  • Escalate concerns to manager, physician, nurse or pharmacy, when appropriate. Work to identify medication errors. Minimize errors in the medication process including maintaining accurate medication lists in EMR. Confirm medication orders. Obtain prior authorizations. Educate patient within scope, and make appointments and orders as needed per regulatory guideline and protocol.
  • Assist with technical issue resolution related to medication management within EMR. Participate in customer service and quality initiatives as requested.
  • Assist in the orientation and training of other technicians. Maintain knowledge of clinic workflow and skill sets to support in urgent scenarios.

What you will need:

EDUCATION:

  • College degree, Pharmacy Tech training, Medical Office Assistant program graduate

EXPERIENCE:

  • REQUIRED - Pharmacy Technician certification (current/prior ) with 1+ years exp. or Georgia Nursing license *In lieu of preferred education above - MA with 3 years’ experience in medication management training
  • PREFERRED - Retail pharmacy tech background, physician practice medication management experience

CERTIFICATION/LICENSE:

  • REQUIRED - CPR. Additional certification may be necessary depending on the practice.

  • PREFERRED - Certified Pharmacy Tech, or RN/LPN (current or prior)
