The CHAT/Bullying & School Violence Advocacy Program (BSVAP) - Mental Health Counselor II position will provide direct services to families including case management, collateral, and linkage services to connect families to other needed resources in the community, as well as provide advocacy with clients who are involved with the criminal/legal system and/or who are interested in applying for CalVCP services. The Mental Health Counselor II will complete program reports, ensure Quality Improvement (QI) data is collected and implemented to improve program services, and assist in the maintenance of organization within the office. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Provides direct services to clients in the CHAT/Bullying & School Violence Advocacy Program. Assist families who contact the BSVAP Call Center by linking them to appropriate services within their community, including mental health services, substance abuse treatment, domestic violence services, health, transportation, housing/shelter, recreation, and other needs.
Assists clients in obtaining appropriate activities to strengthen positive family relations and community supports, including linkage to the Friendship Group, social skills classes, prosocial after-school activities, and support groups.
Provides community outreach efforts to the CHAT and Bullying & School Violence Advocacy Program consumer/families, on an as needed basis. Examples of outreach activities include, but are not limited to, presentation of anti-bullying program materials & skills at health fairs, schools, community programs, etc.
Links the CHAT/Bullying & School Violence Advocacy Program clients to the Victim Witness Assistance Center for crime victim compensation services (CalVCP) and for services to provide understanding and participation in the criminal justice system. Accompanies clients to court/police proceedings, as requested. Assists clients in the completion of applications for CalVCP, as needed.
Develops ongoing social media postings/videos and website updates, which are posted once supervisor approval is provided.
Becomes familiar with, and establish relationships with other community based service providers and gain knowledge about the services provided by these agencies, in order to coordinate services and to become aware of other possible resources available to families. Monitors the organization and flow of all client records, including setting up charts, and client orientation packets and verifying client services on the Units of Service Logs against client chart records.
Collaborates with other BSVAP staff and volunteers to ensure that trauma-informed services are being provided, case management services are appropriate and individualized, and plans for program improvements are implemented. Prepares and complete outcomes reports for the Program Manager to include data from Parent Satisfaction Questionnaires Outcome Measures, and track numbers toward meeting the Bullying and School Violence Advocacy Program Objectives.
The ideal candidate must have a Bachelor’s degree in psychology, social work, or related field.

At least (2) years’ experience either employed, or working as a volunteer, with children, adolescents, and families in a mental health or related setting with a strengths-based, family-centered approach. Strong documentation, communication, and organizational skills.

Must pass Department of Justice fingerprint clearance and pre-employment physical, and valid California Driver License in good standing and be insurable by the Center’s auto insurance carrier.

Bilingual Spanish-speaking is required.
