Overview:
Sierra Lobo, offers customers a full range of professional and technical capabilities, including Test and Evaluation, Systems Engineering, and Advanced Technologies. We also develop products and processes related to Cryogenic Fluid and Thermal Management Systems, Densified Propellant Management Systems, and Prototype Extreme Pressure and Temperature Systems. This is a NASA Test and Evaluation Contract position in the Technical Services Department at the NASA White Sands Test Facility (WSTF).

Responsibilities:
Assists management and Senior Metrologist with schedule as directed for the group to be consistent with budgetary and time constraints with emphasis on safety operations.

Assists employees with problem resolution; coaches and as required counsels’ employees; assures compliance with and activity supports EEO/AA programs.

With limited supervision develops innovative approaches to non-routine, nonrecurring work requests based on acquired expertise and knowledge of organizational philosophy and personnel capabilities.

Researches, evaluates, and implements improvements in laboratory measurement processes.

Calculates measurement system accuracies and Test Accuracy Ratios (TARS) by determining and properly combining system component accuracies.

Assists management and Senior Metrologist in maintaining technical resources by remaining current in the newest calibration/measurement theories, equipment, methodologies, research, and specifications. This includes maintaining a technical library.

Assists management and Senior Metrologist with providing quality metrology services with documentation of records and objective compliance to NASA-STD- 8739.12 and ANSI/NCSL Z540.1-1994, and other standards as contractually required.

Assist in directing and maintaining the laboratory policies, procedures, instructions, and plans of the Metrology and Calibration Program.

Acts as the Project Lead on projects directed by management.

Writes technical/administrative reports and conducts technical presentations.

Assists management as a primary Measurement Assurance Program (MAP) contact to other NASA centers and NASA HQ.

Assists management in planning, implementing, and conducting MAPs as directed by NASA and the MCWG. Contributes to compilation of NASA reference publications.

Performs any other related duties as may be required to meet objectives of the group, provides training; maintains appropriate records.

Qualifications:
Minimum of two (2) years college or vocational training in area of specialty plus six (6)years relevant experience, or any equivalent combination of education/experience for a total of eight (8) years.

Must be able to regularly lift 50 lbs. and occasionally 75 lbs.

Position involves extended periods of sitting or standing. Physical requirements are: sitting, walking, standing, extensive use of stairs, and access to remote structures. Position is located on a hazardous testing facility; must be able to quickly evacuate buildings in the event of an emergency.

Desk/office work and test area work. Position requires individual to travel to different areas on site. Walking on uneven terrain including paved areas, gravel/rocks, and dirt/sand is required to access various locations on the facility. Must be able to function as a member of a team in a fast paced environment. All work must be completed in a safe manner in accordance with NASA and Company safety standards.

Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license.

Must pass a physical examination as determined by the WSTF physical examinations requirements for the job classification.

Must meet the requirements for certification, if applicable, as specified in the White Sands Training Database (WSTD)

Must be able to safely handle emergency conditions related to a specific area(s) of assignment.

Must be able to provide technical guidance to lower-level positions by functioning as a lead person to retain specialist classification.

Must be able to write and sign accurately detailed procedures such as TPSs, DRs, and WJIs for work to be performed.

Must represent primary work area as a committee member in safety and test reviews, including SRs, SSAs, SRRs, TRRs, as requested by the area supervisor.
