USN currently operates two high-performing elementary schools (K-5) and two high-performing middle schools (6-8) that serve more than 1,000 students. Position Description*
The Special Education Instructional Aide (SpEd IA) position allows for passionate individuals to support students with their physical, emotional, and academic needs. The SpEd IA handles personal care for middle school students, aids students in physical movement, and helps to maintain records of their progress. They coach and encourage students to grow and achieve during academic programming as designed by their teacher and the special education team in addition to monitoring their school environment to maintain a space of safety and positivity. SpEd IAs play a crucial role in helping students to feel supported and comfortable at school.

Qualifications:

  • Holds a high school diploma or equivalent.
  • Has prior experience working in urban schools and/or social services (preferred).
  • Holds CPR/First Aid certification or is willing to obtain CPR/First Aid certification (funded by school).
  • Able to physically assist students as required (positioning, lifting, transferring, restraining, etc.)

Knowledge and Skills

  • Is committed to using data-driven instructional practices and the techniques outlined in Teach Like a Champion 3.0 to improve student outcomes and classroom management.
  • Supports the implementation of an Individualized Education Program for each student, complementary to his or her educational strengths and needs as defined through the evaluation and IEP process.
  • Is open and committed to implementing frequent feedback from team members.
  • Communicates effectively with students, families, and colleagues.
  • Comfortability with Google products for effective communication and completion of job responsibilities.

Terms of Employment*

  • Applications will be considered immediately.
  • This is a full-time position.
  • Report times are typically Monday through Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 4:15 p.m., although some job-related tasks can be expected outside of these hours.
  • Salary: $28,000/year plus a one-time, temporary bonus of $2,000 for all middle school instructional staff members to be distributed evenly across paychecks (starting on 9/30/2022) throughout the 2022-23 school year.
