About the role:

We are currently seeking a Mine Shift Supervisor to join our Information Maintenance Team at our Twentymile Mine location. The Annual Salary Range for this position is between $115,000 and $130,000 depending on experience.

Reporting to the Maintenance Manager. The scope of your role will be to Manage all employees on the mine-site during their assigned shift. The following areas define their daily duties.

  • Safety and Peabody Safety Policy Compliance
  • MSHA Compliance for all areas of the mine
  • Mine Production/ Maintenance
  • Workforce Training and Development

Duties will include:

  • Safety: The Mine Shift Supervisor shall continuously improve the safety culture at the mine. This shall include enforcing Peabody Safety Policies as well as contributing and supporting new safety projects and programs.
    • Insure that both you and your crew works safely and comply with all TCC and Peabody Safety Policies.
    • Perform Pre-shift meeting every shift, informing the crews of all safety concerns and necessary information.
    • Support and mandate the Observation and Assessment process.
    • Emphasize compliance and safety improvements in all areas in the mine.
    • Communicate any safety concerns to oncoming shifts or specific departments.
    • Hold others accountable for their safety performance.
  • MSHA Compliance: The Mine Shift Supervisor shall assist the Compliance/Safety Shift Supervisor to ensure the mine remains compliant with all regulations and work diligently on correcting all citations in the mine.
    • The Mine Shift Supervisor may be required to travel with inspectors depending on the number of inspectors at the mine on any given shift.
    • Coordinate and oversee the work to correct citations and compliance work orders throughout the mine. The work orders will be developed by the Compliance/Safety Shift Supervisor. The Mine Shift Supervisor shall ensure that the work order is properly completed from a documentation standpoint.
    • Remain pro-active on keeping the mine compliant.
  • Mine Production and Maintenance:
    • Communicate with the appropriate departments on issues requiring correction as well as communicating improvements that can be made.
    • Coordinate each shift to achieve budgeted numbers.
    • Drive and continuously improve workforce efficiency.
    • Based on the weekly plan provided from the Underground Mine Manager, plan equipment allocations to minimize the number of machines that must be maintained in service.
    • Adjust plans as required to minimize the effect of unplanned downtime.

About you:

  • Thorough knowledge of all underground mine equipment used in Longwall and CM operations, ventilation plans, roof control plans, production techniques, preventative maintenance programs, and a thorough working knowledge of the Mine Safety and Health Act.
  • A high level of interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Problem solving skills and the ability to organize projects and personnel in a rapidly changing environment.
  • A demonstrated ability to interface with engineering accounting, purchasing, human resources, etc. is required.
  • Colorado Underground Mine Foreman papers, with at least 5 years underground coal and previous supervisory experience.

Physical requirements:

  • Must have the ability to stand for prolonged periods of time on uneven, rocky surfaces for up to the entire length of the shift
  • Must have the ability to be seated for up to 4 hours to operate equipment or vehicles
  • Must have the ability to walk for up to 4 hours at a time. Will be required to walk through different sections of the mine with varying degrees of clearance and headroom
  • Must have the ability to wear required protective footwear, hearing and eye protection, and other personal protective equipment as required by Company and MSHA
  • Must have the ability to climb up and down stairs/steps and climb on and off equipment and ladders.
  • Must have the ability to lift/raise up to 80 lbs. without mechanical assistance frequently during the course of work shift.
  • Must have the ability to work in extreme conditions, including but not limited to changing weather conditions, dust, mud, water varying levels of noise from low to high decibels, varying degrees of light and dark, in and around artificial light and in a confined work area
  • The job requires that you be able to work various shifts (required shifts include days, evenings and nights with rotating schedules, weekends and holidays

  • NOTE: This is a “safety sensitive role”. Individuals in safety sensitive roles cannot have:
    • an uncontrolled condition which is likely to cause loss of consciousness or ability to control a motor vehicle or other large machinery;
    • an uncontrolled respiratory or cardiac dysfunction likely to interfere with the ability to operate a motor vehicle or other large machinery;
    • a current clinical diagnosis of high blood pressure likely to interfere with ability to operate a motor vehicle or other large machinery;
    • a current or unregulated mental or psychiatric disorder likely to interfere with ability to drive a motor vehicle or other large machinery;
    • impaired hearing (with or without hearing aids) that would prevent the person from hearing crucial safety information or alarms;
    • impaired vision. Individuals must meet the minimum vison requirements of at least 20/40 acuity (Snellen) with or without correction and at least 70° field of vision in horizontal meridian measured.

Job Description

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Visibly support and champion Peabody’s Missions and Values

  • Coordinate all aspects of development, and/or longwall, and/or production, and/or continuous operator activity
  • Liaise with superintendents, supervisors, technical services staff, maintenance personnel and contractors
  • Identify potential improvements to the mining process
  • Ensure activities are aligned to planned development and production forecasts and budgets
  • Monitor actual versus target production and initiating remedial action as appropriate;
  • Ensure activities comply with safety, environmental and statutory requirements;
  • Conduct and reviewing hazard and risk assessments and communicating outcomes to all mining personnel; and
  • Promote safety among the workforce.
  • Conduct proper examinations as required by State, Federal and Mine policy.
  • Coordinate required preventive maintenance and repairs to equipment and communicate results.
  • Coordinate and conduct crew safety and information sharing meetings.
  • Coordinate and conduct training for safety, task and operational needs.
  • Ensure activities comply with safety, environmental and statutory requirements
  • Other duties as assigned by the company

EXPERIENCE

  • 2 years of relevant mining experience required

  • Must have the ability to stand for up to 4 hours per shift

  • Must have the ability to wear required protective footwear, hearing and eye protection, and other personal protective equipment as required by Company and MSHA
  • Must have the ability to perform repetitive hand and wrist motions (push, pull, twist, handle), and have rapid reflex movements of the arms/legs and good hand to eye coordination
  • Must have the ability to lift/raise 10 – 50 lbs. without mechanical assistance frequently during the work shift
  • Must have the ability to work in extreme conditions, including but not limited to changing weather conditions, dust, mud, varying levels of noise from low to high decibels, varying degrees of light/dark, in and around artificial light, and in a confined work area
  • Must have the ability to work various shifts (required shifts include days, evening and nights, with rotating schedules, weekends and holidays)

  • Must have the ability to lift 25 – 50 lbs. on a frequent basis and the ability to occasionally lift items weighing up to 80 lbs.
  • Must have the ability to work in extreme conditions, including but not limited to changing weather conditions, dust, mud, varying levels of noise from low to high decibels, varying degrees of light/dark, in and around artificial light, and in a confined work area
  • Must have the ability to work various shifts (required shifts include days, evening and nights, with rotating schedules, weekends and holidays)

  • Must have the ability to sit for up to 8 hours
  • Must be able to use a computer and communicate effectively in various forms, including email and by phone
  • Must have the ability to review paper and electronic documents and complete computer entry of data from paper documents
  • Must be able to find, remove and return files to/from file cabinets and discuss issues by telephone and in person
  • Must be able to operate copier, fax machine, etc.

Education

  • High School Degree or GED Equivalent required
  • Trade Certificate preferred
