Larimer County Department of Natural Resources is seeking knowledgeable and friendly individuals to join our team as Seasonal Park Rangers!

Responsibilities

Specifically, this position:

  • Ensures public safety, protection of natural resources, and the enjoyment of parks and open space areas.
  • Explains and/or enforces applicable rules and regulations to park visitors for the purpose of protecting and preserving natural, historic, and cultural features, sites, and structures.
  • Patrols front and backcountry areas by foot, vehicle, boat, horse, and mountain bike as needed.
  • Issue warnings and citations to violators.
  • Conduct investigations of reported offenses/incidents to collect evidence, statements, and other relevant information as needed; may be required to provide testimony in court regarding investigations and/or citations.
  • Participates in interpretive educational and public outreach programs as needed.

We are looking for a candidate that will:

  • Communicate clearly and concisely, both verbally and in writing.
  • Have knowledge of area ecosystems and related native plants and wildlife; biology, wildlife management, geology, environmental sciences, and local and state history.
  • Be able to make immediate, important, and critical decisions related to enforcement and emergency situations.
  • Show basic knowledge of recreational activities of the park user including boating, fishing, hiking, camping, mountain biking, horseback riding, nature study, etc.
  • Understanding of Natural Resources Management, Park and Visitor Services Management, General Ecology and Biology, and Wildlife Biology.

Qualifications

All candidates will be screened for the following required minimum qualifications. Any candidate who does not meet all of the qualifications listed as required will be eliminated from the process.

  • Six (6) months experience in park, Natural Resources, law enforcement, or a directly related field preferred.
  • High School diploma or GED required.
  • Possession of a valid Driver's License by date of hire required.
  • Possession of a valid CPR and First Aid certification within six (6) months of hire date required.
  • Successful completion of training program(s) that are necessary to perform the essential functions of the position required.

Supplemental Information

This is a temporary position.

This position may work nights, weekends, holidays, and variable shifts.

An offer of employment is contingent upon the successful completion of a pre-employment drug screen and background check. As marijuana is an illegal substance under federal law, testing positive for marijuana (medical or otherwise) or any other substance for which the county tests, will result in the contingent offer of employment being revoked. Successful completion of the drug screen is defined as obtaining a negative result.
