Job Title/Working Title: Network Field Service Technician
Required Skills:
- In-depth knowledge of Cisco networking products (Cisco 3700 and 3800 series switches, Cisco 6500 series routers, 9000 series switches, Wireless LAN Controllers) and VOIP/UCS
- Basic understanding of SDA network architecture.
- Working knowledge of network management tools such as:
- Knowledge of routing protocols (OSPF, BGP)
- Experience with general LAN technologies (CDP, 802.1q, 802.1x, 802.11, 802.1d, LLDP, port-security, etc.)
- Excellent communication and writing skills, including developing and presenting training materials, implementation plans, and diagrams
- Familiarity with the Microsoft Office Suite, including Visio and Project
- Knowledge of and experience using Cisco Nexus switches (2K/5K/7K/9K) in NXOS or ACI-mode.
- Basic knowledge of data center network design
Job Duties:
- Provide Tier 3 support for trouble calls related to Cisco network (wired and wireless) products
- Perform wireless site surveys including use of a spectrum analyzer
- Meet with customers to gather specialized networking requirements, especially related to wired and wireless networks
- Develop detailed implementation plans related to network projects
- Present proposals for implementation of network projects
- Participation in peer reviews of implementation plans and architecture
- Communicate and collaborate in cross-functional teams with Network Engineering teams supporting other NASA locations
- Participate in Agency working groups
- Activity scheduling and coordination with Enterprise Network Operations Center
- Must be able to support rotating shift coverage with other technicians. Hours of operation 6:00 am to 6:00 pm. Shifts are: 6:00 am – 2:30 pm, 8:00 am – 4:30pm, 9:30 am – 6:00 pm.
- Technicians rotate on-call duties to support after hours and weekend callouts.

The Telecommunications Mechanic II installs, tests, troubleshoots, programs, maintains, and repairs digital switching equipment, attendant consoles, power and ringing relay racks, miscellaneous telephone, radio, fire ala1ms, intmsion alarms, and computer data circuits and related apparatus required in the central switching office. This worker analyzes system failures and other unusual system occwTences to isolate the source of the problem and detennine whether the failure is caused by software, har·dwar·e, or other factors. Employees in this position maintain manual and/or computerized central office records, including detail records, traffic analysis records, cable records, line records, subscriber service records, and spare parts inventories.
Qualifications:
Required Certifications: CCNA preferred
