This job provides training for those interested in becoming a Certified Nurse Assistant (CNA). The CNA course will be taught at Charlottesville-Albemarle Technical Education Center (CATEC) and is approximately 6-8 weeks. During the course of 6-8 weeks, you will attend class at CATEC, clinical at a local nursing facility, and work at UVA Health.

You will be paid a total of 40 hours per week. All course fees and certification fees will be paid for by UVA Health in return for a 1-year full-time commitment as a CNA at UVA Health.

START DATE: 10/3/2022

• Assists patients with personal care as needed for optimal recovery during hospitalization. Performs basic nursing skills, as delegated by an RN and in accordance with policy and procedure, to promote patient health and wellness.
• Assists in capturing patient data, such as vital signs, weights, and measurement of intake and output.
• Assists in reporting changes in patient condition and abnormal findings in patient data promptly to the registered nurse.
• Assists in providing patient with personal hygiene needs.
• Assists in providing patient with ADLs, exercise, and ambulation.
• Assists in obtaining, labeling, and forwarding specimens for diagnostic testing.
• Assists professional healthcare staff with performing physical examinations and patient procedures.
• Provides for a safe environment and safe delivery of care.
• Observes for environmental factors affecting patient/staff safety on an ongoing basis. Reports any potential hazards immediately.
• Identifies patients prior to assisting with any intervention.
• Maintains safe transfer and patient positioning practices.
• Cleans equipment and performs safety checks as directed.
• Reports incidents involving patients, staff, and/or visitors promptly to RN or supervisor using the institution's quality reporting process.
• Demonstrates knowledge of institution's fire/emergency/infection control programs.
• Performs administrative support functions.
• Completes supply stocking, inventory, and ordering as directed.
• Maintains necessary skills and competencies.
• Identifies strengths and opportunities for professional development and goals for self-improvement.
• Completes annual mandatory training activities and regulatory in-service requirements within established time frames.
• In addition to the above job responsibilities, other duties may be assigned.

Position Compensation Range: $15.00 - $19.93 Hourly

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

• Education: High school graduate or equivalent.
• Experience: No experience required.
• Licensure: Must complete CNA certification within one year.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Job requires frequent bending and stooping. Proficient communicative, auditory, and visual skills. Attention to detail and ability to write legibly. Ability to lift/push/pull 20-50 lbs. May be exposed to chemicals, blood/body fluids, and infectious disease.
