Job description
Position Summary:
Engages staff and other team members in a Shared Governance Framework that identifies and addresses issues, solves problems, and evaluates outcomes

Participates on unit and hospital Shared Governance Councils to address issues and facilitate information exchange.
Educates and supports staff on principles of Shared Governance.
Provides an environment conductive to opinion sharing and involves staff in decision making that is patient centered.
Tracks outcomes and celebrates achievements of Shared Governance Councils.
Builds credibility and collaborates with medical staff leaders in determining patient care needs, services, policies, and procedures.
Participates in attracting, hiring, and training of new staff
Follows Human Resource procedures related to selection and hiring of new employees.
Engages and educates staff in peer interviewing and selection of staff.
Provides staff evaluations utilizing peer feedback and self-evaluations. Evaluations are provided in a timely manner.
Creates an environment conducive to professional growth and development.
Assures appropriate maintenance of employee files.
Monitors staff satisfaction through NDNQI staff nurse satisfaction and employee satisfaction surveys.
Identifies key issues related to satisfaction and retention and develops an action plan based on input from staff.
Executes and evaluates effectiveness of the plan.
Provides mentorship and career counseling to aspiring clinicians and leaders so they may develop required skill sets to achieve succession planning
Maintains knowledge of current nursing practice and roles and functions of patient care team members to include care delivery systems and innovations

Articulates and ensures compliance with standards and regulations such as The Joint Commission, CMS, Tennessee State Nurse Practice Act, Tennessee State Board of Nursing Licensure Process, and policies and procedures of the hospital and assigned areas.

Ensures that policies and procedures are reviewed and updated in accordance with evidence-based practice.

Role models lifelong learning to others.
Serves as a change agent when patient care delivery processes or work-flow redesign is developed and implemented.
Utilizes evidence-based practice findings in the establishment of standards, practices, and patient care models with the interdisciplinary team
