Maryland Bariatrics is growing, and we are currently seeking a Nurse Practitioner (NP) to join our passionate and dedicated team. Applicants must have a master’s degree in advanced practice nursing.
The NP will be responsible for managing bariatric pre-operative/post-operative follow-up surgical patients, in accordance with State & Federal rules and regulations, and the bariatrics standards of care, in both inpatient and outpatient settings. Perioperative preparation and postoperative clinical management are conducted in collaboration with our other health care team members.
Our conveniently located practice in Rockville, Maryland provides services to the Washington, D.C. metropolitan region and the surrounding areas. Our services include: bariatric surgery, foregut, and minimally invasive general surgery.
Primary responsibilities include:
- Functioning independently to perform age-appropriate histories and physicals for complex acute, critical, and chronically ill perioperative patients.
- Initiating and ordering selected therapeutic and diagnostic procedures, consultations and laboratory examination, prescribing medication regimens, interpreting findings and altering plans of care according to accepted standards of care and practice guidelines
- Collaborating with multidisciplinary team members by making appropriate referral to specialty services and fostering continuity of care
- Coordinating physicians and other clinical providers to help patients with their treatment plans
- Consulting with physician according to established standards, policies, procedures, and protocols
- Facilitating staff, patient and family decision making by providing educational tools.
- Coordinating and navigating care plan for potential, current and post-surgical bariatric surgery patients to ensure compliance with specific insurance requirements and standards
- Recording, reporting, and interpreting the patient’s responses to the plan of care in the patient's medical record
- Monitoring the effectiveness of interventions
- Assisting with scheduling and communicating appointments to patients
- Providing patient education pre- and post-surgery including information sessions for groups of prospective patients and one-on-one interactions
- Educating and counseling in the areas of health promotion, maintenance, disease prevention, and management of acute/chronic illnesses
- Serving as a resource person to administrative and medical team members
- Remaining up-to-date on current medical advances in the bariatric specialty via self-directed learning, literature review, and attendance at educational programs
Minimum qualifications:
- Graduate of a nationally accredited school of nursing with bachelors in nursing and Masters Degree in advanced practice nursing.
- Strong computer skills, including previous experience with various EMRs, as well as proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint)
- Minimum of 2 years’ experience in direct patient care preferred
- Minimum of two years in a medical or surgical office setting and/or coordinator of bariatric surgery or another subspecialty preferred
- Strong leadership and consensus building
- Excellent interpersonal, communication, creative problem solving, critical thinking, and leadership skills
- Demonstrates a humanistic, kind, and caring attitude in the delivery of health care
- Treats co-workers, patients and families with dignity and respect
Certification and Licensure:
- Possesses and maintains an unrestricted license to practice as an NP in the state of Maryland
- Possesses and maintains an unrestricted DEA license to prescribe in Maryland (Schedule II-VI)
- Maintains and provides proof of CME requirements as put forth by the Maryland Board of Medicine or Joint Board of Medicine and Nursing.
Recertification is necessary (if applicable) * Current Basic Life Support certification
