GENERAL DUTIES:
Directly supervises the nursing and paraprofessional health care personnel during the scheduled shift.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Participate in the recruitment and orientation of new nursing personnel.
2. Schedule evaluation conferences for non-supervisory nursing personnel and participate in their performance evaluations on a regularly scheduled basis.
3. Participate in the development and implementation of policies, procedures, rules and regulations of the Health Care Unit; confer with the Director of Nursing in matters of policy and program development.
4. Actively participates in in-service training programs and staff meetings.
5. Collaborate with physicians and other members of the interdisciplinary team to develop and initiate health review.
6. Supervise the preparation of records of nursing care and other treatments given patients.
7. Plan and supervise the implementation of various nursing care techniques.
8. Supervise the emergency medical care given in accordance with written policies of facility.
9. Be aware of emergency procedures in the event of emergency evacuations or crisis situations and the appropriate plan of action governed by triage and written guidelines.
10. Be capable of giving CPR instructions and be able to take charge in a CPR emergency.
11. Serve as liaison between nursing staff and Director of Nursing to relay pertinent information, to serve as consultant with problem solving relative to improving health care delivery.
12. Be responsible for security of medications, supplies and equipment.
13. Prepare and submit daily, monthly and annual medical records and reports as requested to the Administrative staff.
14. Attend staff and Administrative meetings as requested.
15. Encourages, participates, and supports safety program components including development, education, training, and communications regarding mandatory OSHA trainings and employee health and safety programs.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Graduate of a National League of Nursing accredited school and holds a current license to practice professional nursing in state of practice.
- Competence in performance of the following services: psychiatric nursing care, crisis intervention, medical emergencies, or physical assessment.
- Ability to work without direct, immediate supervision in performing nursing diagnosis, and providing appropriate follow through treatment.
