The Director of Operations, Bone Marrow Transplant (BMT) and Cell Therapy Program, under the direction of the Chief of Operations, Chief Nursing Officer, and Director of BMT and Cell Therapy Program coordinates all phases of the BMT and Cell Therapy program. Incumbent will report to the CNO for purposes of nursing compliance, regulatory requirements and clinical work flows and standard of care. Similarly, for purposes of Foundation for the Accreditation of Cellular Therapy (FACT) accreditation and regulatory requirements and overall program excellence, incumbent will have a reporting relationship to the Director, BMT and Cell Therapy Program. Director of operations will function in an operational and clinical dyad partnership with the Director, BMT and Cell Therapy Program.

This coordination includes but is not limited to:

  • Develops goals, objectives, and policies for the BMT/Cell Therapy patient care functions; organizes, coordinates and monitors activities
  • Interprets objectives, policies and procedures
  • Lead programmatic initiatives for growth and access including marketing strategies and tactics
  • Oversee and manage FACT audits and accreditation site visits
  • Manages the clinical, operational and contracted activities of the service
  • Contributes to strategic planning activities including evaluation of requests for new services and resources
  • Reviews organization and develops and maintains approved service line budget
  • Evaluates performance of department including performance evaluation, development and management of direct reports.
  • Seeks continual process improvement of business and clinical operations of service line
  • Delegates within scope of authority
  • Collaborate with the Hematology/Oncology and BMT/cell therapy faculty to develop, review and revise policies and protocols related to BMT and Cell Therapy candidate evaluation, timely diagnostic testing, candidate listing, and care delivery
  • Collaborate with inpatient, ambulatory and faculty departments
  • Oversee, manage and monitor compliance with all regulatory requirements including FACT, TJC, CDPH and other accrediting bodies/agencies
  • Organizes BMT and Cell Therapy Candidate Selection Committee meetings including meeting schedule, agenda including provision of candidate list, and meeting minutes
  • Create, review and track BMT and Cell Therapy candidate list
  • Collaborate with the quality outcomes departments (including Quality Outcomes, Infection Prevention; Performance Management) to collect, analyze and interpret quality metrics and performance improvement opportunities; prepares required reports
  • Develop and ensure provision of education for patients, families, and staff
  • Organizes the BMT and Cell therapy Steering Committee including manage minutes and follow up on deliverables established at meetings
  • Serve as resource for BMT and Cell therapy related activities

Minimum Education: • Graduate of a state approved School of Registered Nursing. • Baccalaureate degree in Nursing required. Master degree preferred. Minimum Experience/Knowledge: • 4 years nursing experience • 2 years of BMT experience • Minimum of 5 years of progressive management experience. • 2 years of business development or marketing experience required. • Project Management experience required. Lean Six Sigma certification preferred. • Demonstrates ability to effectively work with physicians, staff, and patients. • Demonstrates ability to utilize effective, appropriate and diplomatic oral and written communication skills. • Demonstrates ability to work independently with minimal direction and supervision. • Proficient computer skills in Microsoft Word as well as Internet and access and utilization. • Ability to participate in and utilize research for improvement of patient-care practices. Required License/Certification: • Valid California Registered Nurse License or. • Current Basic Cardiac Life Support training. • Oncology Specialty Certification including but not limited to: (OCN, AOCN, AOCNS, BMT-CN, CPHON) • Advance Cardiac Life Support training preferred. • Los Angeles City Fire and Safety Training. If no card upon hire, one must be obtained within 30 days of hire, and maintain renewal before expiration date.(Required within LA City only)
