Position Overview
The Division of Developmental Disabilities is seeking to hire an energetic, detail-oriented and experienced licensed Registered Nurse to oversee the nursing operations of assigned units and assigned staff, including the overall operation of the Clinical Services Department at the Shapiro Center in Kankakee Illinois. The position will supervise and administer the activities of professional nursing staff providing health care services to individuals served at the Shapiro Center and supervise the care individuals are receiving at local hospitals/rehab facilities during temporary stays. The Shapiro Center serves a broad spectrum of individuals with behavioral and medical needs.
Job Responsibilities
1. Serves as Nursing Supervisor over professional Registered Nurses on an assigned unit and shift.
2. Serves as full-line supervisor.
3. Oversees the unit medical program.
4. Attends and participates as a member of the interdisciplinary team at meetings and on committees.
5. Functions as a training instructor and assists in the development of facility policies and procedures.
6. As part of a team, reviews, updates, and implements nursing policies and procedures according to the latest trends and nursing standards.
7. Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of the duties enumerated above
Minimum Qualifications
1. Requires licensure as a Registered Nurse in the State of Illinois.
2. Requires knowledge, skill, and mental development equivalent to the completion of four (4) years of college with coursework in nursing.
3. Requires prior experience equivalent to three (3) years of progressively responsible professional nursing experience in a public or business organization.
Preferred Qualifications (in priority order)
1. Three (3) years of professional experience supervising professional nursing staff.
2. Three (3) years of professional nursing experience working with individuals with developmental disabilities.
3. Three (3) years of professional experience recommending and implementing nursing policies and procedures relative to the latest trends and nursing standards.
4. One (1) year of professional experience training nursing staff on latest trends and nursing standards.
5. One (1) year of professional nursing experience communicating in verbal or written form with patients and/or individuals.
6. One (1) year of experience completing and conducting employee performance evaluations.
7. One (1) year of experience recommending and implementing disciplinary actions following collective bargaining agreements.
8. One (1) year of professional experience performing quality assurance assessments on nursing services and treatments provided to patients and/or individuals.
9. One (1) year of professional experience reviewing program needs, setting priorities and assigning nursing staff to ensure compliance with standards of care and practice for a public or private organization.
Conditions of Employment
1. Requires ability to pass the IDHS background check.
2. Requires ability to pass a drug screen for drugs prohibited from recreational use under Illinois Law.
3. Requires the ability to meet all agency vaccine/health-related policies and guidance.
4. Requires the ability to serve as Administrator Officer of the Day (AOD) on a rotating basis, after business hours, weekends, and holidays on a rotation basis.
5. Requires the ability to use utilize office equipment, including computers.
6. Requires the ability to physically restrain individuals as necessary to prevent injury to individual or others.
7. Requires the ability to obtain and maintain Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certification.
8. Requires the ability to travel.
