Job Summary:
The Operations and Maintenance (O&M) Technician will operate all systems both inside and outside the control room. Reporting to the O&M Supervisor, The Operations and Maintenance Technician will Perform start-up, operation, and shutdown of plant systems in accordance with approved plant procedures. The Operation and Maintenance Technician will also be responsible for completing operator qualification program which includes demonstration through written and oral exams of a clear understanding of all operating systems including Engines and Engine Auxiliaries, Electric Generators, Exhaust Treatment System, Fire System, Cooling Water System, Plant Air Systems, Electrical Systems.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Perform start-up, operation, and shutdown of plant systems in accordance with approved plant procedures.
  • Complete all daily rounds in a timely manner unless outstanding circumstances exist
  • Conduct proper turnover with relief operator, include special orders and plant operating conditions, review the logs, and make visual inspection of plant equipment and controls.
  • Routinely check equipment operating parameters to detect faulty equipment operation, reporting abnormal conditions or conditions that require repair.
  • Take proper corrective steps, which may include completing corrective maintenance.
  • Complete operator qualification program which includes demonstration through written and oral exams of a clear understanding of all operating systems including Engines and Engine Auxiliaries, Electric Generators, Exhaust Treatment System, Fire System, Cooling Water System, Plant Air Systems, Electrical Systems.
  • Assist or perform as directed, emergency or abnormal operations necessary for maintaining in service or returning to service, the engines, fuel system, emissions control system, and auxiliary plant equipment.
  • Monitor performance of equipment and systems and adjust maintain the plant at its optimum efficiency and generating capacity.
  • Perform preventive, minor, and major maintenance as directed on all plant equipment.
  • Perform equipment isolation in accordance with plant lockout/tag out procedures.
  • Update plant CMMS system accordingly to reflect work completed and parts used in completing a task.
  • Maintain plant and grounds in clean and orderly condition.
  • Oversee off-loading of bulk urea solution, diesel fuel, and lube oil deliveries.
  • Observe, correct if possible, and report situations that are likely to develop into problems or safety hazards.
  • Respond to and report all oil and chemical spills and natural gas leaks, as required.
  • Test and operate plant fire and chemical safety equipment as directed.
  • Attend and participate in scheduled safety meetings and training.
  • Safely operate vehicles on-site as required. This includes the aerial lift, fork truck and pickup.
  • Assist in training other personnel as needed.
  • Work a rotating shift schedule, with day and night shifts alternating weekly.
  • Maintain on-call availability on weekends on a rotating basis, as required.
  • Cover vacations as required to support operational coverage.
  • Work non-scheduled days as required in support of periodic or emergency maintenance outages.

Job Requirements:

  • Understanding of all Safety & Environmental policies, practices, and procedures.
  • Knowledge of and ability to apply the basic principle of physics, thermodynamics to operations.
  • Provide leadership to others through example and sharing of knowledge/skill.
  • Must be able to read, write, and speak English to successfully accomplish the essential duties of this job.
  • Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.
  • Ability to write simple correspondence.
  • Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.
  • Ability to add, subtracts, multiply, and divides in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
  • Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
  • Intermediate personal computer skills, including electronic mail, routine database activity, word processing, spreadsheet, graphics, etc.
  • Must be able to handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license.
  • Must successfully complete the CRO qualification card.
  • Must successfully complete a Mechanical Aptitude test and a Basic Mathematical test.

Physical Requirements:

  • Physical requirements include working on feet for 12-hour periods, requiring stair and ladder climbing; and routinely lifting 50 pounds.
  • Protective equipment must be worn in the performance of some duties (e.g., hard hats, safety glasses, air masks, ear protection, chemical suits, hot gloves, and high voltage protective equipment, etc.).
  • May be required to work with hazardous materials.
  • Position requires extended working hours and varied shifts with weekend and holiday work, as required by schedules, workload, and plant conditions. "On call" status will periodically be required.
  • All employees will participate in the Fitness for Duty Program. This program includes a post-offer physical examination and drug screening and post-employment random drug screening. There are extensive smoking restrictions in and around the facility.

Education / Experience:

  • High School Diploma required.
  • Minimum of two years’ experience as an operations technician or equivalent position in an operating or generating plant required.
  • Associate Degree in a technical field is preferred, but not required.
