Job description
The Oncology Pharmacy Technician prepares all medications associated with IV treatments to be administered in outpatient oncology setting. This includes but not limited to chemotherapy, biologics, growth factors and support medications prescribed to prevent or treat therapy associated side effects. In addition, the Pharmacy Technician manages drug inventory and runs/reviews daily reports of drug utilization, maintains pharmacy environment to OSHA, USP 797-800, ONS, QOPI and JACHO standards, demonstrates safe handling and disposal of chemotherapy. The Pharmacy Tech can serve as resource to clinical and billing staff regarding drug dispensing and preparation.

Required Experience
- High school graduate or equivalent. Associate degree preferred.
- Pharmacy Technician Certification from an ASHP recognized program/examination
- Pharmacy technician state registration (CT license)
- Minimum of three years experience in hospital practice or infusion therapy setting with actual intravenous admixture skills
- Computer literacy in a PC environment. Experience with working with GE Centricity, Intellidose, Meditech, Looking Glass, Aria and drug dispensing/inventory cabinets preferred.
- Strong organization, interpersonal and communication skills needed
- Critical thinking and mathematics skills needed
- National pharmacy technician certification (CPhT) preferred upon hire but allowed up to 1 year post hire to obtain certification for continued employment.
