JOB DESCRIPTION: OPHTHALMIC TECHNICIAN

JOB SUMMARY

Assist Physician with patient examination and treatment, responsible for patient histories, routine diagnostic procedures, as well as some clerical duties.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Ø Maintain and stock all exam rooms

Ø Clean and maintain all instruments

Ø Order supplies as needed

Ø Prepare patients for examination

Ø Take patient history, visual acuity, and glaucoma tests

Ø Take dictation and document medicals while physician is examining patient

Ø Write out necessary prescriptions

Ø Fill out fee slips with proper diagnosis and charges

Ø Administer drops and give injections under physician supervision

Ø Collect and calculate diagnostic data: K readings, refraction, visual fields, PAM (Potential Acuity Meter)

Ø Assist physician in minor office surgery

Ø Instruct, deliver, and order contact lenses

Ø Return and answer patient phone calls

Ø When help is needed at front desk, answer phones and make appointments

QUALIFICATIONS:

Ø High school diploma with a minimum of two (2) years of Ophthalmology experience.

Ø Strong organizational skills

Ø Excellent written and verbal communication skills

Ø Proficient in Outlook and Microsoft Word and other Software Packages

Ø Flexibility (may require some early mornings and evenings)
