The Organization

North Los Angeles County Regional Center “NLACRC” is a private, non-profit agency that is contracted with the State of California, Department of Developmental Services, to provide services to individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities. NLACRC is one of the largest regional centers in California and has proudly served the San Fernando Valley, Santa Clarita Valley, and Antelope Valley since 1974. We serve individuals across the lifespan from infants and toddlers, school age children, transition-age youth, to adults and aging adults.

SUPERVISION: Receives general supervision from the Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Belonging (DEIB) Supervisor.

THE POSITION AND JOB SUMMARY

The Outreach Language Specialist will work with clients and families whose primary language is other than English. The specialist will serve as a translator/interpreter, and a community liaison for those families and consumers served by the Center. Outreach Language Specialist will be connecting, collaborating, and building connections in person and/or virtually with entities, such as community centers, cultural centers, places of worship, etc.

These are examples of the types of duties that may be performed. Additional duties may be added.

1. Initiates and responds to consumer, family, service provider, and outside agency communications regarding accessing regional center services.

2. Respond to consumers and families in the community to address barriers and connect to resources; collaborate with case management on identified needs.

3. Conducts advocacy and trainings in the community on regional center services.

4. Collect input received from the community and provide feedback to NLACRC management on issues and concerns.

5. Attend workshops, meetings, and other related activities to encourage and support consumer and family involvement

6. Assists with literacy initiatives, community outreach events, and other multicultural initiatives sponsored by the Center.

Employment Standards

1. Bilingual Armenian/English is required.

2. A Bachelor’s degree in Education, Social Work, or related field is required.

Skills and Abilities

  • Must possess knowledge of developmental or related disabilities and social services.
  • Customer service skills, advocacy and relationship building experience, and a strong understanding of regional center services and community resources.
  • Ability to work successfully with people from a variety of cultures and backgrounds.

Essential Requirements

A valid California Driver's License and transportation, or acceptable substitutes are required for this position.

This position is non-exempt. Regular Salary: $26.92 - $28.99 per hour. Position will be based out of the Chatsworth.
