The Outside Sales Representatives (OSRs) are the primary contact for customers to negotiate and place orders with UPI. OSRs are responsible for securing the largest quantity of profitable orders possible from each customer to reach or exceed UPI’s Commercial business plan. Maintain prices at or above market values. Develop close and trusted relationships with each customer. Gather and distribute market information on a regular basis.

Essential Functions:

  • Distributes customer purchase orders to Inside Sales Representative for order entry.
  • Log daily activities into Salesforce, or current tracking system.
  • Schedules routine customer visits.
  • Consistently gather market intelligence and competitive pricing information. Distribute information to Marketing and Sales Manager.
  • Collaborate with Sales Manager to negotiate monthly spot and/or contract pricing.
  • Responsible for all customer related activities, documenting price adjustments, order changes, new inquiries/trials, and future opportunities.
  • Enter timely price card requests into Salesforce and resolve all price/invoice related discrepancies as soon as possible.
  • Communicate with Customer Technical Sales Representatives to effectively resolve claims or concerns.
  • Take part in assigned training activities, seminars, or conferences.
  • Regularly search for new customer and growth opportunities.
  • Monitors daily status reports for assigned customers, communicates changes or delays with Inside Sales Representative and directly with customers.
  • Receives and responds to customer inquiries, reaching out to other departments when necessary and serving as a customer advocate to promote timely shipment of quality products. (Daily)
  • Receives customer complaints; for order, shipping, and pricing issues, the OSR works with the Inside Sales Representative to research the issue and recommend a resolution; for other issues, the OSR serves as a liaison and customer advocate to promote customer satisfaction. (Weekly)
  • Prepares monthly and annual business plan booking forecasts.
  • Collaborates with Inside Sales Representative to prepare monthly shipping forecast for assigned customers. (Monthly)
  • Reviews all orders to be sure they are properly fulfilled and closed. (Monthly)

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience is sales 5-7 years.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Excellent negotiating skills.
  • Strong analytical skills to gather and process data and draw valid conclusions.
  • Time management skills and ability to work autonomously.
  • Valid Driver’s license and ability to get car insurance.
  • Must dress and act in a professional manner while interacting with customers.
  • Minimum of four years of sales or industry experience.
  • Strong computer abilities, including Outlook, Microsoft Office, and Salesforce.
  • Public speaking and presentation skills.
  • Ability to travel including overnight to service each customer.
  • Remain up-to-date and knowledgeable of market conditions.
  • Interest in team or individual sporting activities, such as golf is preferred.
  • Customer orientation and ability to adapt and respond to different personalities.
  • Attention to detail.
  • Ability to multitask and complete responsibilities in a timely manner with minimal supervision.

Travel

  • This position may include up to 50% travel, including overnight stays.
  • Must reside in CA, LA or WA

Work Environment

This position is conducted in a home office environment using routine office equipment.

Physical Demands

  • This position involves a combination of sedentary and light work and the ability to walk in the manufacturing environment while carrying up to 50 pounds.
  • Climbing, stooping, kneeling, sitting, balancing, and crouching are required.
  • Must be able to stand for extended periods of time.
  • Additional demands include driving and air travel.
