JOB SUMMARY AND PURPOSE

Reporting to the Internal Counsel, the Paralegal will be responsible for a providing legal administrative support to the various VOALA program and corporate headquarters. This includes, but is not limited to, assisting Internal Counsel in the processing of legal matters, drafting and preparing documents, coordinating with outside counsel as directed, and organizing and maintaining files and records.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Provide support for the legal issues handled by Internal Counsel, primarily non-profit compliance
  • Manage and coordinate databases, case files, correspondence files, etc.
  • Assist in research regarding organizational legal matters such as intellectual property, legal risks, and certain matters involving clients
  • Occasionally, draft materials for dissemination
  • Act as liaison between Internal Counsel and outside counsel or third-party administrators, as directed by internal counsel
  • Engage in special projects and other duties as assigned by Internal Counsel

Qualifications

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Must be able to pass a fingerprint clearance, background check, including criminal history, personal references, employment and education verifications

EDUCATION:

  • A certificate of completion of a paralegal program approved by the American Bar Association.

EXPERIENCE:

  • Two years’ paralegal experience in a law firm, or non-profit organization

KNOWLEDGE:

  • Working knowledge and understanding of real property law, contract law, premises liability, corporate structure, non-profit law and regulations – State and Federal

TECHNOLOGY SKILLS:

  • Proficient Computer skills and working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite of applications, specifically Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint.
  • Familiar with Web-based applications and databases relating to legal research, corporate law and California statute and regulations

SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Excellent legal writing ability that is clear, concise, removes ambiguity, and is accurate
  • Excellent investigative and research skills
  • Stays current with non-profit compliance regulations and laws, especially in the State of California
  • Ability to perform under circumstances of possible emotional stress and conflict, including dealing with un-cooperative clients.
  • Ability to safely and successfully perform the essential job functions consistent with the ADA, FMLA, and other federal, state, and local standards, with or without reasonable accommodation, including meeting qualitative and quantitative productivity standards.
  • Ability to maintain regular, punctual attendance consistent with ADA, FMLA, and other federal, state, and local standards.
