The Parent Education and Consultation / Supervised Visitation Program invites applicants to apply for a Parent Educator position in our Schenectady County office to provide both Parent Education groups and Supervised Visitation to families referred by the Schenectady County Department of Social Services.

The Parent Education and Consultation Program (PECP) integrates a classroom setting or virtual groups, where an evidence-based parenting curriculum (Active Parenting Now or Incredible Years) is presented, with home-based parent education and support (as needed) to ensure parents learn and can effectively operationalize key parenting skills within their home.

The Supervised Visitation Program provides specific and curriculum guided skills and core concepts for building healthier family relationships in a service provider office-based setting, DSS office, community setting or the client’s home to aide in promoting the goal of family reunification. Emphasis is placed on creating a safe and healthy family environment for children with their parents in charge. Parents are empowered and supported to make healthy decisions for themselves and their families during visiting time. Limited transportation of children to and from visits may be needed.

Responsibilities include conducting 8 parenting groups, either in person or virtual, per year as well as supervising visits for up to 8 families based upon each families’ particular visitation schedule. The Parent Educator is also responsible for creating treatment plans based upon each client’s needs, completing all documentation regarding services provided, attending service planning meetings when able and testifying in court as required.

Skills/ Qualifications: A Bachelor's degree with at least 2 years’ experience in the human services field.

Work Schedule: This position is a full time position that may require one to two early evenings a week.
