The Highline College Diversity & Global Studies [DGS] department is actively looking for part-time faculty to teach Intro to Islamic Studies, which will be offered as an in-person, hybrid course for Winter 2023 quarter. The successful candidate will demonstrate the ability to use equity-minded approaches to teaching and learning for racially, ethnically, linguistically, and socioeconomically diverse students, including delivering curriculum, pedagogy, and assessments relevant to students; valuing what students already know; and empowering students to demonstrate knowledge in multiple ways as appropriate for the discipline or program. Candidates should be able to teach one course in the DGS Department and develop a curriculum in consultation with the DGS department.

Essential Tasks
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
- Teach Introduction to Islamic Studies, which is one in-person, hybrid course in the DGS Department in Fall 2022;
- Demonstrate culturally-responsive teaching practices;
- Incorporate an equity-minded approach to teaching and learning;
- Provide instruction in English designed to promote effective learning;
- Create a positive and inclusive learning environment for students using diverse teaching methods to support and enhance student success;
- Develop, assess, and analyze student achievement of course learning outcomes with the goal of enhancing and improving student learning;
- Develop, monitor, and assess student learning outcomes and fully participate in the college’s program improvement/program review process;
- Complete other related duties and special projects as assigned.

- Adopt and use equity-minded approaches to teaching and learning for all students, including designing curriculum, pedagogy, and assessments relevant to students; valuing what students already know; and empowering students to demonstrate knowledge in multiple ways as appropriate for the discipline(s) or program(s);
- Demonstrate commitment to student learning including planning, organizing, and creating an interactive, cooperative, and mutually respectful learning environment incorporating research-based practices to teaching and assessment;
- Encourage students to ask questions, confront limits, recognize complexities, think critically, and challenge assumptions;
- Convey information and expectations clearly, listening carefully, encouraging students to communicate, and acting with respect, enthusiasm, and empathy toward students;
- Demonstrate personal and professional integrity, including being professional, honest, and ethical in the selection and delivery of course content;
- Establish and maintain respectful, ethical, and professional relationships with students and colleagues;
- Demonstrate cultural responsiveness in interactions with students and co-workers, and within the community.
Qualifications
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Master's degree (or higher) in Islamic Studies or a closely related field from an institution with regional accreditation or its international equivalent. (Pending degrees must be verified by a letter from the granting institution.); AND
- Experience teaching at a 2- or 4-year college.
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Previous experience teaching Introduction to Islamic Studies;
- Experience working with multilingual learners.
