Job description
The Pharmacy Coordinator (part-time) is a vital part of our veterinary healthcare team, responsible for assisting our veterinarians in serving our clients and patients and maintaining our pharmacy. To be able to properly serve our patients and to assist the veterinarians at our hospital, it is essential that the Pharmacy Coordinator (part time) have at least 500 hours of practical work experience in a retail pharmacy, or hospital pharmacy setting. Certification as a Pharmacy Technician is highly desirable.
The primary goal of the Pharmacy Coordinator (part-time) is to execute a smooth and efficient operation of the hospital pharmacy, consistent with CUVS standards for patient care and client service. Excellent judgment and communication skills are essential. The Pharmacy Coordinator (part-time) is expected to maintain and promote the CUVS Core Values and standards of care, and adhere to protocols established within the hospital. The Pharmacy Coordinator (part-time) may be assigned other duties by the Director/s, or the Chief Medical Officer.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Receive prescription, or refill requests and verify that information is complete and accurate.
- Dispense prescribed medications and verify prescription label against the medical record.
- Ensure prescription labels contain all required medication warning labels and alerts.
- Respond to client inquiries regarding medication refills, questions, or requests.
- Responsible for all outside pharmacy communications regarding medication authorizations and refills.
- Maintain proper storage and security conditions for drugs.
- Understand and uphold all laws and regulations regarding the storage, dispensing, security and record-keeping requirements for controlled substances.
- Assist clients by answering simple questions, locating items, or referring them to the veterinarian for medication information.
- Record prescriptions that have been filled as well as other appropriate data in the patient medical record.
- Clean, and help maintain, equipment and work areas according to prescribed methods.

- Proficiency with relevant aspects of electronic medical records
Physical Demands
- Ability to lift up to 40 pounds without assistance.
- Ability to open and close various containers.
- Ability to utilize computers in an efficient and productive manner.
- Walking, standing and/or sitting for long periods of time, bending, kneeling
Supervisory Responsibilities
This position currently has no supervisory responsibilities.
Work Schedule
This is a part-time position, up to 29 hours per week. Work schedule is typically weekday afternoon/evening hours, Saturday day and Sunday day, but specific schedule may vary and may depend on Pharmacy needs.
Job Type: Part-time
Pay: $21.00 - $23.00 per hour
