Job Title: Patient Care Technician Float Pool

Job Summary:

The position of Patient Care Technician (PCT), works under supervision of the nurse, and the California Nurse Practice Act as well as evidence-based standards of care, to provide basic care to patients and assist professional nurses with complex patient care up to the validated level of training.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Essential Functions:

• Adheres to the evidence-based standards of care and standards of practice, policies and procedures of the hospital and the Division of Nursing.
• Demonstrates proficiency in providing safe, effective patient care including but not limited to ADL’s, mobility and safety concerns.
• Assists patients with personal care needs such as bathing, dressing, feeding, elimination, positioning, and bed linen changes.
• Assists with admitting, discharging, transferring and transporting patients.
• Obtains and accurately documents pertinent patient information including but not limited to vital signs, weights, I & O, oxygen saturation, care observations and reports all abnormalities to the RN in a timely manner.
• In a courteous manner instructs patients in various basic procedures and communicates effectively with patients and family members. Provides encouragement, support and comfort to patients and family
• Monitors, records and communicates patient condition utilizing computerized documentation
• Provides age and culturally appropriate care
• Follows Standard Precautions using personal protective equipment as required.
