POSITION DESCRIPTION
The Patient Registration Clerk is responsible for obtaining accurate patient records by interviewing patients to obtain identifying, demographic and insurance information for input into the electronic health record (EHR) program. This position will include billing responsibilities.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Welcomes and greets all patients and visitors, in person or over the phone
2. Answers the phone while maintaining a polite, consistent phone manner using proper telephone etiquette.
3. Update personal information (phone, address, etc.), update insurance or Purchased/Referred Care (formally known as Contract Health Services) eligibility status and input information in the EHR system for every visit.
4. Registers new patients and updates existing patient demographics by collecting detailed patient information including personal and financial information.
5. Coordinates with Medical Records, Dental, Optometry, Behavioral Health, and the Billing Office to provide them with updated patient information.
6. Notifies the appropriate FTHC service area of patients signing in as a drop in or if the patient has an appointment.
7. Assesses alternate resource status of clients and refers them to the Benefits Coordinator.
8. Rotates working hours to provide for possible extended hours and/or Saturday coverage.
9. Other job related duties as assigned by the supervisor.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
1. Candidate must have a High School Diploma or GED certification.
2. At least one (1) years’ experience in a medical office (either in-patient or out-patient) facility as Patient Registration is preferred.
3. Have knowledge of the HIPAA law and Privacy Act and is able to maintain records in a confidential manner.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES

1. Good communication skills, both written and verbal.
2. Assures adherence to the Federal Privacy Act, HIPAA and Freedom of Information Act.
3. Familiarity with computers, demonstrated by two or more computer courses or at least one (1) year work experience.
4. Practical knowledge of standard medical procedures and terminology.
