Job description

This position assists in the successful processing of the bi-weekly and monthly payrolls. This position also services campus departments and employees with questions and concerns regarding time keeping, taxes, earnings, contracts, payroll processes, and other payroll related items.

This is a temporary position to provide payroll operations support which is expected to be needed for up to three years.

Essential Functions

  • Assist in staff/student payroll
    • Enter additional payment requests during payroll processing.
    • Assist in validating payroll accuracy through queries and reports.
    • Responsible for system holiday calendar entries.
    • Communicate with employees regarding direct deposit compliance.
  • Provide customer service
    • Answer customer questions regarding payroll payments and W-2s.
    • Coordinate with campus units on upcoming payroll processing requests.
    • Work with Compensation and the Employment offices in processing adjustments and corrections.
  • Backup manager of time keeping system
    • Provide assistance to Y-Time managers to ensure compliance in the time keeping system.
    • Assist in resolving employee exception and time recording issues in the time keeping system.
    • Promote time keeping best practices.
    • Coordinate with time managers in processing time approvals.
  • Filing and tracking paperwork and important backup documents
    • Ensure proper documentation trail for payment requests.
    • Prepare monthly payroll compliance report and payroll metrics.
    • Validate payroll backup documentation in payroll processing folder are saved to box for each payroll.
  • Assist in completing assignments
    • Assist Payroll personnel in fulfilling assignments and requests.

Education/Experience

Minimum education/experience

Required:

  • 2 years office or customer service experience or an associate degree or Fundamental Payroll Certification and/or equivalent combination of education and work experience.

Preferred:

  • 4 years office or customer service experience or a bachelor’s degree or Certified Payroll Professional AND/OR equivalent combination of education and work experience.

Skills, abilities, knowledge, licenses, certifications:

  • Ability to prioritize tasks and work independently (required)
  • Experience with Microsoft Word and Excel (required)
  • Good phone demeanor and communication skills (required)
  • Experience working in a Payroll office (preferred)
  • Knowledge of Payroll regulations, including Federal and State statutes, relating to various payroll functions (preferred)
  • Experience working with Non U.S. resident employees (preferred)
  • Previous use, or familiarity with, PeopleSoft HCM (preferred)

Approximate Starting Salary: $35,500 to $45,000 (DOQ)
