SUMMARY

The Registered Nurse (RN) and Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) for school testing and vaccines at Rondout, New Paltz, and Kingston school districts.

The Nurse demonstrates knowledge of the principles of human growth and development over the life span and the ability to assess data reflective of the patient’s status, and interpret the appropriate information needed to identify each patient’s requirements relative to his or her age, specific needs, and to provide the care needed as described by standards and policy and procedures.


RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Demonstrates the ability to perform clinical/technical/service/administrative tasks.
  • Records, reports and interprets clients’ responses and collaborate with appropriate members of the health team in the Family Practice.
  • Identifies those components of the nursing regimen, which may be delegated to allied nursing personnel and provides the necessary teaching and guidance.
  • Establishes therapeutic and supportive relationships with patients and family.
  • Acts as a resource person.
  • Follows up clients in the home via telephone
  • Responsible for telephone communications
  • Prescription requests, according to procedure
  • Communicates normal and abnormal test results in collaboration with appropriate Provider follow- up
  • Oversees maintenance of clinical inventory and forms.
  • Provides and initiates respiratory interventions according to standards.
  • Coordinates, delegates, and/or provides all other patient care activities.
  • Initiates CPR, follows through with Code standards
  • Acts as a patient advocate
  • Refers patient to social worker or other appropriate resource.


QUALIFICATIONS

  • Certificate of completion from a practical nurse course of study
  • AAS/BS in Nursing or equivalent
  • Minimum 1-2 years of experience working within an ambulatory/ school based/ ER setting preferred.
  • Demonstrated clinical, communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to perform venipuncture and administer medications including immunizations.
  • Bi-lingual, Spanish preferred
  • Demonstrated ability to plan, make decisions, organize, and direct the work of others
  • Minimum of two (2) years nursing experience
  • Current New York State LPN license and registration.
  • Current BCLS, Infection Control, Child Abuse Certificates required.
