The Southern Maine Agency on Aging has an opening for per diem Recreation Assistant at the Sam L. Cohen Center in Biddeford. We provide programs for adults living with dementia or other cognitive impairments in a warm, bright, and friendly atmosphere. Our Cohen Center staff are energetic, creative, and compassionate as they facilitate a wide array of activities designed to maximize self-esteem and increase positive social interactions for our members. Recreation Assistants are an integral part of our interdisciplinary team, interacting with members throughout the day, leading small group activities, providing some personal care, communicating with caregivers and maintaining accurate documentation.

Preference will be given to applicants with experience working with people living with dementia and/or other cognitive impairments.

Required Knowledge and Skills:

• High School or G.E.D.
• At least one year of experience in an Adult Day Health Center, residential care or nursing home strongly preferred
• Proven knowledge, experience and skill in working with the frail and handicapped elderly or disabled adults in areas such as ADL skills and appropriate mental, social and physical activities.
• Clean criminal background check and clean driving record
