Job description
Job Purpose: The Engineer will support operations and project execution. The position will also be a key team member of the owner’s project execution team, in some cases leading the implementation of smaller projects and for larger projects coordinating process design activities performed by engineering contractors. Additionally, this position will oversee the Plant Maintenance Department.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities (include but are not limited to):
- Perform studies to identify manufacturing and energy efficiency improvement opportunities in all areas of the plant.
- Implement associated solutions.
- Control Specialist/Technician background to maintain existing equipment and improve on control systems in the existing plant.
- Process Engineering
- Update and maintain documentation such as material balances, P&IDs and automation functional descriptions.
- Process modeling studies.
- Participate in development of project briefs and detailed scopes.
- Obtaining / Analyzing operating data as needed.
- Preparing evaluations of process schemes.
- Preparing process datasheets for equipment and instrumentation.
- Safety, Health and Environmental Performance
- Demonstrate safety leadership in both day-to-day activities and by incorporation in process designs.
- Gatekeeper for the process aspects of the Management of Change work process.
- Educate and coaching of operations and maintenance personnel to facilitate understanding of new processes.
- Lead or participate in safety reviews such as HAZOP
- Assist the Safety and Environmental Manager as necessary by implementing environmental improvement initiatives.
- Additional responsibilities
- Provides oversight of contractor(s) process design performance.
- Participate in preparation & submittal of regulatory permits.
- Participate in planning for commissioning & start-up.
- Member of start-up team consulting on process questions.
- Maintaining full project chronology of process design revisions (including cause / effect data), for use in validating contract change orders.
- Employee is responsible for all aspects of Food Safety and Quality.
