Requirements:

Bush Hog is one of the most recognized and successful names in the Agricultural Market. The Plant Manager is a key position that supports and contributes to the company goals of profitability, return on investment, inventory turnover and accident prevention. Reporting to the Vice President of Operations, this position directs day-to-day functions of manufacturing activities, including production and safety. Responsibilities include development of a strategic plan to meet company goals and objectives while improving the manufacturing process. The Plant Manager will lead through subordinates to meet goals of safety, quality and productivity. As leader of the team they will recommend equipment improvement or replacement and plant layout changes with appropriate studies and cost analysis. As a member of the Vice President of Operations Staff this individual will build and manage an annual capital and operational budget, and participate in daily communication and decision making process in all aspects of manufacturing.

Essential Functions of the Job:

  • Focus, communicate, encourage and contribute to Safety in all aspects of the job.
  • Develop a strategic plan to achieve productivity and efficiency goals. Suggest changes in working conditions and use of equipment to increase efficiency.
  • Analyze and resolve work problems assist subordinates in solving work-related problems.
  • Ensures proper safety practices are in place throughout facility.
  • Provide managerial support and guidance of subordinates within company guidelines. Provide leadership training and motivation to subordinates. Complete subordinates' performance evaluations.
  • Develop and analyze operations actual results vs. budget/forecast. Review discretionary spending requests for all of operations.
  • Participate in business meetings such as production, performance meetings, departmental communication meetings and employee communication meetings.
  • Support and lead Kaizen/Lean initiatives throughout the facility.
  • Participate in planning, development and roll out of all new product initiatives.
  • Plan activities to ensure adherence to budget and operational objectives including raw materials and direct or indirect manpower.

  • Work within quality assurance systems and programs to meet company quality objectives.
  • Collaborate with VP of Operations, Human Resources, Sales/Marketing, Engineering, Accounting and Purchasing regarding schedules and/or problems.

  • Delegate, prioritize and oversee projects of Supervisors, Team Leaders and employees.

  • Oversee maintenance of equipment. Make recommendations when upgrades are needed.

  • Hold plant meetings to ensure performance standards are met.

  • Must be willing to relocate to Selma, AL or surrounding communities.

  • Perform all other duties assigned by Vice President of Operations.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities (KSA's):

  • Knowledge of effective safety strategies generating a focus on fostering a positive and proactive safety culture is critical.

  • Thorough knowledge and understanding of production, fabrication, machine shop, mechanical assembly, stockroom, warehouse, welding functions and related processes.
  • Proficient knowledge in Process Improvement.

  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.

  • Effective human relations skills necessary.
  • Strong leadership skills, ability to problem solve, persuade and motivate.
  • Good coordination skills.

  • Ability to plan, prioritize and organize.
  • Must be able to work under pressure/stress to meet deadlines/production schedules.
  • Must be physically capable of standing/walking/sitting for long periods of time, (8+ hour shift).
  • Must be able to work days, nights, overtime and/or weekends as needed.
  • May be required to travel.

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor's Degree from a 4-year fully accredited University is required. Master's Degree preferred.
  • 7+ years previous manufacturing/plant experience required.

  • Successful experience as the Leader in a similar size and scope organization desired.
