Essential Functions
- Performs mechanical and electrical work associated with installation, repair, and maintenance of equipment/machinery at water treatment facilities. Oversees the work of subordinate positions providing task-specific assistance.
- Inspects and tests systems, equipment, and circuits to identify cause of problems and ensure proper operations; calculates/estimates time and material needed to complete projects; makes recommendations concerning repair or replacement of equipment; conducts preventive maintenance work on equipment as scheduled; plans work activities to minimize equipment down time; conducts maintenance inspections of buildings, equipment, and facilities to identify necessary repairs; reports potentially hazardous or dangerous situations; responds to emergency situations.
- Performs manual work associated with work activities; locates and excavates pipes and valves; operates tractor and backhoe to move dirt/rocks and dig holes; operates crane/hoist to lift motors/pumps; installs concrete pads for fuel tanks or other purposes; welds parts and fabricates metal components; loads/unloads materials.
- Operates a variety of equipment, machinery and tools used in division projects/activities, which may include a utility truck, tractor, backhoe, front-end loader, forklift, overhead crane, lift, plant generators, drill, drill press, band saw, air compressor, welder, torch, lathe, mill, grinder, power tools, plumbing tools, electrician tools, mechanic tools, sand blasting equipment, diagnostic instruments, measuring instruments, shovel, two-way radio, or general office equipment.
- Communicates with contracted service providers regarding complex repairs, warranty repairs, or other issues; assists in monitoring activities of various contractors working on utility plant projects.
- Monitors inventory levels of equipment, tools, parts, and supplies; ensures availability of adequate materials to conduct work activities; initiates requests for new/replacement materials; obtains price quotes; receives incoming deliveries; picks up parts as needed.
- Provides budgetary input involving upcoming/unforeseen expenditures.
- Performs general/preventive maintenance tasks necessary to keep vehicles, equipment, and tools in operable condition, which may include inspecting equipment, refueling vehicles, checking fluid levels, replacing fluids, greasing equipment, washing/cleaning equipment, or cleaning shop/work areas; monitors equipment operations to maintain efficiency and safety; reports faulty equipment.
- Follows safety procedures, utilizes safety equipment, and monitors work environment to ensure safety of employees and other individuals.
Minimum Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED required.
- Three (3) years of related experience.
- Fingerprinting required.
- Must possess and maintain a valid Florida Driver’s License with any applicable endorsement(s) to drive a County vehicle as provided in CMA 5805.
- Must obtain and maintain a Florida Class 3 Distribution Systems Operator License within eighteen (18) months of hire.

- Salary offers above the minimum pay grade may be considered based on qualifications.
- Essential Employees may be required to work during an undeclared or declared emergency. The County’s Administrative Office will determine who will be required to work on an incident-by-incident basis.
