Position Description:

Our people division is growing, and we are looking for a Geotechnical Technician for our Portal Mines Operation. The successful candidate will provide support to two underground operations, be involved in a variety of quality assurance programs, and assist our site geotechnical engineers with projects.

Responsibilities:

• Ensure effective, timely delivery of technical support and QA/QC needs for two underground operations.
• QA/QC of ground support (shotcrete and CRF strength testing, bolt testing, gradation analysis, shotcrete slump testing, shotcrete plant calibrations).
• Inspection and identification of ground control hazards.
• Installation, maintenance, trouble shooting, and reporting of underground instrumentation.
• Participation in safety audits, training, and scheduling.
• Maintenance of all testing records, in both paper and digital format.
• Assist and support geotechnical engineers in managing underground ground control.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

• Valid Nevada drivers’ license required
• Excellent verbal, written, and radio communication skills required
• Demonstrated ability to work as part of a team required
• Satisfactory safety, performance, and attendance records required
• Ability to carry at least 50 pounds required
• Meet Federal and State eligibility requirements on handling explosives required
• Previous Blasting experience preferred
• Explosive handling experience, especially in a mining environment preferred
• Heavy equipment operating experience preferred

About Nevada Gold Mines

Nevada Gold Mines is a joint venture between Barrick Gold Corporation (61.5%) and Newmont Goldcorp Corporation (38.5%), combining their significant assets across Nevada to create the single largest gold-producing complex in the world and realize the full potential of these mines through synergies and best-in-class operational improvements.

The massive mining operation comprises 8 mines along with their associated infrastructure and processing facilities that produced an estimated 4 million ounces of gold in 2018. Three of these assets are Tier One gold mines: Barrick’s Cortez; the combination of Barrick’s Goldstrike and Newmont Goldcorp’s Carlin; and the combination of Barrick’s Turquoise Ridge and Newmont Goldcorp’s Twin Creeks.
