GENERAL JOB SUMMARY:
This is a full-time, grant-funded position located on the Emmetsburg Campus. This position provides pre-employment transition services and work-based learning opportunities to High School students with disabilities in collaboration with Iowa Vocational Rehabilitation Services, school districts and area business and industry. Work directly with students in the high schools, provide accurate and consistent documentation, work-based learning opportunities and quarterly reports. Employment is contingent on continued and sufficient funding. Some evening and weekend duties required; moderate regional and state travel required.

- Organize and facilitate work-based learning experiences that include internships, job shadows, apprenticeships, work experiences, tours, speakers, externships, career fairs, summer camps, etc.
- Provide job exploration counseling to identify work-based learning possibilities for students consistent with their areas of interest, including exploring businesses with potential career pathways and business sectors consistent with regional workforce demand areas.
- Create and provide instruction and activities covering the five Pre-Employment Transition service areas: Work-Based Learning, Counseling on Opportunities, Job Exploration Counseling, Self-Advocacy Instruction, and Work-Place Readiness Training.
- Document work results and data collection in online database.
- Provide opportunities for a student with a disability to make informed choices about occupations of interest to them by facilitating work-based learning experiences.
- Arrange opportunities with local businesses to include informational or mock interviews for a student with a disability providing opportunities for additional counseling for workplace readiness.
- Advise students on skills relating to career exploration, career interest alignment, postsecondary opportunities for enrollment, and core curriculum planning strategies.
- Develop and maintain collaborations with local businesses to create employment opportunities for eligible students with disabilities.
- Identify and facilitate opportunities for students to transition, as appropriate, for paid employment in occupations that match the stated employment goal in their Individual Plan for Employment (IPE).
- Maintain grant budgeting reports. Work with Chief Financial Officer (CFO) to provide monthly budgeting reports to the state.
- Must be willing to travel.
Frequent (34-66%)
- Participate in discussions with representatives from community colleges, businesses, high schools, economic development, Iowa Workforce Development (IWD), parents, and Iowa Vocational Rehabilitation Services (IVRS) to develop and improve strategies for students with disabilities to increase independence and access to community, integrated employment. This could include providing instruction and disseminating information about effective employment practices.
- Coordinate with local workforce development boards and one-stop center business to develop work-based learning opportunities for students with disabilities.
- Provide workplace readiness training to develop social skills and independent living as well as employment readiness consistent with feedback generated regarding business needs. Utilize Vocational Rehabilitation and IWD staff to provide training to businesses on disability-awareness needs and accommodations, when necessary.
- Assist educators in gaining increased exposure to worksite-based learning opportunities and early career connections with business and industry. This will involve coordinating activities with transition services available through the school district as well as local and regional partnerships.
Occasional (10-33%)
- Identify and coordinate professional development sessions for teachers that focus on advising skills relating to career exploration, career-interest alignment, and core curriculum planning strategies for secondary students.
- Develop customized training opportunities for eligible students with local businesses, enhancing job exploration counseling and workplace readiness training.
- Collaborate with Regional Intermediary and High School Partnerships with college events organized for the secondary students.
- Attend IEP and Local School Plan meetings.
- Work closely with vocational rehabilitation counselors and associates to plan and implement a summer program for students.
- Other duties as assigned.

- Represent the College in a positive, professional manner with prospective, former and current students, and to staff and community.
- Assume responsibility; deal effectively with problems and exercise independent judgment when making decisions; ability to complete tasks within minimal supervision.
- Establish and maintain good working relations with school districts, other College personnel and the communities.
- Read, understand and express oneself clearly and effectively in oral and written communication.

- Ability to efficiently perform tasks in an environment with frequent interruptions.

- Ability to effectively relate to diverse groups of students and possess strong human relations skills.
SPECIAL DEMANDS:
Sedentary to light work. Position involves sitting most of the time and driving to local districts and businesses. exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally (10-33%) and ten pounds of force frequently (34-66%). Stooping, kneeling, crouching, pushing, pulling, and carrying, frequently (34-66%). Reaching, standing, walking, lifting, grasping, talking, hearing, repetitive motion and viewing various types of close visual work. Talking or listening to persons over the phone or face-to-face, constantly (67-100%). Required to utilize personal vehicle for some travel. Must have valid driver’s license, good driving record and provide proof of insurance. Will require flexible hours including weekend and evenings and moderate travel.
Employment with Iowa Lakes Community College is dependent upon successful passage of a criminal background check. Must be legally eligible to work in the United States without employer sponsorship.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Bachelor’s Degree with demonstrated successful, relevant experience in areas such as special education, social work, vocational rehabilitation, and human services required. Experience working with high school and/or disabled students desired.
Salary: $43,000 for 260-day contract
