Purpose:

The purpose of this position is to ensure the YWCA Pregnant Women offers, implements and maintains support to expectant mothers and families enrolled throughout their pregnancy and provide Home-based services until baby enters center-based setting.


Job Duties:

  • Recruit and enroll eligible pregnant women for the Pregnant Women's Program utilizing electronic family records and document outcomes in pregnant woman's family records.
  • Provide expectant mother's orientation, pre, and postpartum assessments, and offer the Pregnant Women Program opportunity to expectant mothers to develop culturally competent goals and support them from conception up to 6 months postpartum.
  • Assist families with identifying, obtaining, and maintaining medical insurance, prenatal and dental care, well-baby visits, screenings, and other pertinent medical needs within the first trimester or within 30 days of enrollment and through pregnancy and delivery.
  • Provide or secure prenatal education on fetal development and the risk of drug use, including smoking and drinking; equip expectant families with tools for labor and delivery; and provide postpartum follow-up including but not limited to: whole self-care, postpartum depression and the benefits of breastfeeding.
  • Assist with the arrangement, coordination, and implementation of socialization activities for expectant mothers and families enrolled in the program.
  • Provide EHS Home Based services to families as needed and ensure all EHS requirements are met as outlined in the Head Start Program Performance Standards
  • Work closely with the Prenatal Services Manager and other program staff, consultant's community collaborations to provide comprehensive services to expectant families, and actively participate when and where needed to support the overall program.
  • Actively participate in meetings and training, remain current on health-related trends and information about infant mortality, etc.

Formal Education/Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in Early Childhood Education preferred; must have or be willing to obtain a CDA in Infant and Toddler setting or Home Based OR 120 clock hours within the 8 CDA subject areas focused on prenatal, birth 3 years within the last 5 years and 480 hours along with experience working with prenatal families, birth 5 years.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Must have a working knowledge of local community resources for pregnancy, labor, delivery and family empowerment; family values, beliefs, traditions and cultural influences
  • Expert knowledge of child development focusing on the first years of life
  • Ability to problem solve and use of effective communication and verbal skills
  • Ability to multi-task, manage time and prioritize tasks to meet deadlines
  • Effective verbal/written communication and interpersonal skills, including computer skills
  • Ability to relate well and coordinate with people from diverse backgrounds, use of appropriate verbal and non-verbal messages and listening skills
  • Must have and maintain valid driver's license and be willing to recruit within the community
