The KC-46 Pegasus is the future of the United States Air Forces aerial refueling fleet. The next generation tanker will provide the USAF with the capabilities to replace the legacy tanker fleets of the KC-10 and KC-135. The KC-46 will provide aerial refueling support to the Air Force, Navy, Marine Corps and allied nation aircraft.

This position is for a Senior Principle Technical Project Manager (TPM) on the KC-46 Team within the Fixed Wing Systems, Military Avionics & Helicopters, and Avionics Engineering at Collins Aerospace. The TPM in this role will be the engineering contact for the Program Management and the customer in supporting KC-46 as part of the Remote Vision System (RVS) 2.0 and/or Panoramic 2.0 upgrades. Both programs are working to enhance the remote vision system with technology upgrades of the cameras to provide the Air Refueling Officers (AROs) with better mission capabilities at the Air Refueling Officers Station (AROS) within the KC-46.

Responsibilities for this position include:

  • Provide systems engineering leadership and technical project management for assigned tanker platforms and projects

  • Provide platform/aircraft level systems domain knowledge for systems, products and/or subsystem functionality within assigned tanker platforms

  • Provide engineering leadership, coordination, and management of bids/pursuits and budget planning estimate activities

  • Provide engineering leadership/architecture support to Program Management and Business Development in various pursuit and bid activities to successfully capture new and follow-on business

  • Understanding of basic cockpit instrumentation/procedures and experience with military products/platforms and customers

  • Coordinate and manage aircraft obsolescence strategies and avionics road mapping activities across Collins Aerospace teams

  • Regular communication, interface and coordination with customers including being a point of contact for technical inquires and working group activities

  • Ensuring that all systems activities are completed per the Integrated Project Management Process (IPM) and the Collins Aerospace Technical Consistent Process

  • Working with the Program Manager to create and maintain estimates of schedule, budget, and staffing while ensuring the project remains on schedule and within budget

Qualifications/Experience Needed:

  • Typically requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) unless prohibited by local laws/regulations and minimum 10 years prior relevant experience or an Advanced Degree in a related field and minimum 7 years of experience or in absence of a degree, 14 years of relevant experience.

  • The ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. government issued security clearance is required. U.S. citizenship is required, as only U.S. citizens are eligible for a security clearance.

  • Candidate will be required to travel intermittently.

  • Expertise and management in the areas of Earned Value Management, Cost Account Management, Change Management, and Risk Management.

  • Adaptable and emotionally flexible to changes in assignments, responsibilities, and resources.

  • Works successfully in team-centric environments.

  • Willing to work beyond 40 hours per week as requested as a full-time salaried employee.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Ability to evaluate and report overall engineering performance to plan as appropriate.

  • Ability to analyze data and determine appropriate actions to correct program problems before they impact the overall program.

  • Ability to train and mentor other engineers.

  • A strong communicator with others, both written and verbal.

  • Experience and ability to effectively use DOORS, JAMA, JIRA and ALM tool suite.

  • Experience and ability to effectively use Microsoft Project, PowerPoint, and Excel.

  • Demonstrate self-starter personality traits as well as the ability to work autonomously.

  • Knowledge of Collins Aerospace Avionics Engineering processes and tools, and the ability to manage complex, organizationally matrixed projects.
