Summary:
Administers the system Privacy Program and Summa’s commitment to comply with state and federal regulations. This positions functions as an independent body that reviews and evaluates privacy issues/concerns within the organization. Responsible for developing, maintaining and overseeing the development, implementation, and maintenance of policies and procedures as well as education, investigation, monitoring and auditing responsibilities. Ensures the confidentiality, integrity and availability of Summa Health System assets. Participates in ongoing enforcement and monitoring activities related to privacy in compliance with organizational policy, regulatory requirements, federal and state laws, accreditation and industry standards.
Minimum Qualifications:
1. Formal Education Required:
a. Bachelor’s degree or higher (Advanced degree or JD preferred)
2. Experience and Training Required:
a. Five (5) or more years of demonstrable, professional, HIPAA Privacy experience in a large integrated healthcare delivery system or highly regulated industry
b. One or more Certifications required/preferred:
i. Certification in Healthcare Privacy Compliance (CHPC)
ii. Certification in Healthcare Compliance (CHC) * preferred
iii. Certification in Privacy Security (CHPS) * preferred
iv. – Requires 1500 hours working in healthcare compliance prior to examination
3. Other Skills, Competencies and Qualifications:
a. Knowledge and experience in state and Federal Privacy laws
b. Knowledge and experience in conducting investigations and privacy audits
c. Knowledge of Office of Civil Rights and Office of National Coordination Cures Act
d. Population Specific Competency: Ability to effectively interact with patients/customers with the understanding of their needs for self-respect and dignity
4. Level of Physical Demands:
a. Sedentary: Exerts up to ten pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently.
