The State of New Hampshire, Department of Labor, Division of Workers' Compensation, Hearings Bureau has a part-time vacancy for a Program Assistant I.


Summary:

To perform diverse duties while assisting the staff of the Department’s operating divisions and associated programs.

18 Months of additional relevant experience = Associate's degree

36 Months of additional relevant experience = Bachelor's degree
54 Months of additional relevant experience = Master's degree

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Education: High school diploma, or high school equivalency credential. Each additional year of approved formal education may be substituted for one year of required work experience.

Experience: Three years of experience in a responsible clerical position, including experience in workers’ compensation or general insurance coverage.

License/Certification: None required.

ACCOUNTABILITIES:

Researches and responds to correspondence, phone requests, or in-person visits from department staff, general public, and insurance carriers regarding the provisions of the law and administrative rules that relate to workers’ compensation insurance or wage and hour law.

Uses data management systems to request coverage, confirm coverage changes, and correct inconsistencies and errors on filed documents from employers, workers’ compensation insurance carriers, or wage and hour documentation to ensure compliance.

Notifies employers of non-compliance with workers’ compensation and wage and hour laws and rules.

Schedules meetings and/or formal coverage hearings with employers, to be held at the Department of Labor, to explain obligations and interpret workers’ compensation and wage and hour laws and rules.

Researches, explains, and presents information regarding employers’ workers’ compensation and wage and hour obligations.

Calculates fines and assesses civil penalties against employers and insurance companies for violation of workers’ compensation coverage and wage and hour laws, follows up on overdue invoice payments, assists business office and processes invoices.

Maintains and updates records related to the various correspondence, email, phone calls, or in-person visits received from and sent to the general public, employers, and insurance carriers in the database management system and document organization program.

Reviews, verifies, and processes information from the public to determine eligibility for agency services.

Supervises, trains and updates staff on new policies, procedures, assigns projects, and rejects unsatisfactory work relating to processing paper correspondence.

Works closely with the Information Technology staff to develop and test new programs as system changes are made.
