Job description
Responsible for scheduled and special event recreation and/or aquatic programming at Plainfield Aquatic Center indoor and/or outdoor operations. Responsibilities include but are not limited to program instruction, program documentation, participant safety, maintaining skills and working at other Plainfield Parks and Recreation facilities as needed.
(1) Risk Management: Ensures that all programs are operated with lifeguards present and on duty if during aquatic programs, enforces all facility and patron rules during program and will maintain minimum number of program and safety in-service hours required by the department. Will also maintain proper head counts for program participants as required.
(2) Facility Maintenance and Operations: Will assist with cleaning and proper storage of instructional equipment after use. May assist with the set up of special event equipment; involving lifting and/or other labor-intensive duties.
(3) Personnel: will be primarily responsible for supervising program participants.
(4) Programming: Will be primarily responsible for the development and teaching, coaching, instructing or assisting with departmental programs and special events at location in accordance with town affiliated and authorized instructional guidelines and protocol.
(5) Documentation: Will document all program lesson plans, program registrations and other program operational reports and records required for program statistics and files.
(6) Policy and Procedure: Follows all policies and procedures as described in the Town of Plainfield employee manual and all other town and department protocols, policies and guidelines including those outlined by Ellis and Associates Risk Management standards and other affiliated organizational values and protocols.
(7) Other related duties as assigned
(1) Must be able to read, write and speak the English language.
(2) Basic understanding of swimming, aquatic programming and have experience teaching, coaching or instructing children, young adults and or adults.
Must be able to obtain: National Safety Council first aid and C.P.R. certification OR Jeff Ellis and Associates, National Pool and Waterpark Lifeguard License offered by the Town of Plainfield at the employee's initial expense(1) Ability to enforce rules and follow all established protocols and guidelines.
(2) Ability to resolve conflicts between patrons, program participants and employees.
(3) Ability to make sound and rational decisions including exercising independent judgment.
(4) Must remain current with all required licenses, certifications and in-service requirements.
(5) Must demonstrate satisfactory performance ratings on all safety and operational audits including program instructional audits.
