The AUDELCO and Obie Award-winning ​Billie Holiday Theatre, founded by Bedford Stuyvesant Restoration Corporation, is devoted to the discovery of world-class storytelling with a focus on stories for, by and about people of African descent. The Billie presents, promotes and sustains art that reflects the definitive issues of our time in and through all of its forms of expression. The Billie Holiday Theatre has been a significant platform for many Black theater artists, including Samuel L. Jackson, Ruby Dee, Debbie Allen, Wendell Pierce, John Amos, Sonia Sanchez and more. Bedford Stuyvesant Restoration Corporation (Restoration) has been a prominent member of the Brooklyn community for nearly fifty years. As the nation's first community development corporation, Restoration successfully partners with residents and businesses to improve the quality of life of Central Brooklyn by fostering economic self-sufficiency, enhancing family stability and growth, promoting the arts and culture and transforming the neighborhood into a vibrant place to live, work and visit.

With a dynamic leadership time, The Billie produces and/or presents a season of 3 - 4 plays, 3 dance concerts, monthly music salons, monthly theater readings, a large outdoor music festival, sUmmer programming, developmental projects, and education/outreach programs. Restoration does several large annual events each year and has ongoing day-to-day services for Central Brooklyn and beyond.

ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Manage the productions of theater shows, talks and content partnerships (annually app. 3 – 4 plays; 10 – 12 talks and 4 - 6 content partnerships), including production schedule and production budget;
  • Finalize licensing, as required, for music, content, etc.;
  • Finalize partnership agreements;
  • Facilitate content partnerships, including reserving space, communication production needs, partnership meetings, content copy and hi-res photos, guests, production timeline, and specifics of content partnerships.
  • Schedule production meetings, rehearsals, run of shows and all production timelines in collaboration with the Billie’s calendar;
  • Finalize and manage scheduling of production meetings, rehearsals, techs, performances and post-mortem meetings with actors, stage managers, directors, designers, writers and guests based on approval of Executive Director;
  • Secure all headshots and bios of necessary talent for promotional platform use;
  • Assign and Manage Production Team, including production coordinator(s), sound and lighting engineers, etc.;
  • Manage Allocated Budget for Set, Lights, Props and Sound for all shows and events;
  • Facilitate Communication between Design/Tech Faculty Staff;
  • Supervise/Organize Crew Calls, Load-ins, Strikes (in Collaboration with Technical Director);
  • Assure the Collaborative Process for all Involved:
  • Regularly review program expenditures against approved budgets to ensure resources are used effectively and in accordance with funder agreements.
  • Additional responsibilities, as required.

PROFESSIONAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Has at least five (5) years of professional experience in a production and leadership capacity in a non-profit organization, theater company or arts organization or institution;
  • Has a degree in theater and/or arts management with a broad and deep knowledge base of Black theater, American theater and Arts and Culture along other disciplines;
  • Proficient in Office, including Word and Excel
  • Demonstrated ability to generate and execute complex creative ideas and projects and to assimilate and organize large amounts of information
  • Proven ability to consistently work well with others, demonstrating at all times respect for the diverse constituencies at Restoration and within the cultural and arts landscape of Central Brooklyn and beyond.
  • Proven experience establishing and executing production models

Job Type: Part-time

Pay: $30.00 per hour
