Employees in this job class are scheduled to receive future Across-the-Board increases and Market Increases:
** July 2023 - 2.93% increase to base pay (2.75% Across-the-Board + 0.18% Market Increase)
** July 2024 - 2.93% increase to base pay (2.75% Across-the-Board + 0.18% Market Increase)
Per County rules, this position is eligible for appointment at step 1, $61,464.00 annually.
County employees are subject to the County Promotion Rule for step placement in accordance with Comp Ord 1.3.5.
Protective Services Workers are responsible for investigating and evaluating allegations of abuse or neglect, recommending protective program placement, and providing casework for children and families who are active to CWS. Upon appointment, incumbents participate in a training academy administered by Child Welfare Services and work under immediate supervision. As knowledge and competency are gained, incumbents work under general supervision and are expected to perform the full range of investigation, casework, and intervention services in protective services programs.
1. A bachelor's degree in social work from an accredited U.S. college or university, or a certified foreign studies equivalency;
OR
2. A bachelor's degree from an accredited U.S. college or university, or a certified foreign studies equivalency with at least 24 units in the behavioral sciences, AND, one (1) year of work experience or two (2) semesters of supervised internship experience in a family or children's services agency performing duties of supervision, treatment or protective services to children.
Note: The term "public protective services agency" is defined as that of any U.S., state or county agency providing services comparable to the Health and Human Services Agency (HHSA).

2) A valid California Class C driver's license, which must be maintained throughout employment in this class, is required at time of appointment. Employees in this class are required to use their personal vehicle.

INTERVIEWS AND HIRING PROCESS
The timeline for this recruitment is outlined below.
Job Offer and Background Process: Day of interview.
Pre-employment Medical Screening: Approximately 3 days following successful background investigation results.
Anticipated Start Date: Start date will be based upon successful completion of background or other mutually agreed upon date.
CONDITION OF EMPLOYMENT
As part of the County of San Diego’s pre-employment process, prospective candidates will undergo a background check (including fingerprinting) and a pre-employment medical screening prior to beginning County employment. Additional types of background investigations may be conducted based on the job-related activities of the position.
Employees who work at County locations subject to the California Department of Public Health State Public Health Officer order are required to be fully vaccinated. In addition, booster-eligible employees must receive their booster by March 1, 2022, or within 15 days of becoming eligible for a booster if they are not eligible as of March 1, 2022. If there are CDPH date changes for Booster compliance, employees must come into compliance in accordance with that date.
If unvaccinated or not fully vaccinated (including booster), employees in some locations covered by the Public Health Officer Orders who remain in the workplace may be eligible for an accommodation.
Qualified applicants will be placed on a three (3) month employment list based on scores received during the evaluation of information contained in their employment and supplemental applications.
