PROTESTANT DIRECTOR OF RELIGIOUS EDUCATION
- Position is Contingent upon Contract Award
PART-TIME
Location: Beaufort, SC
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Shall possess a Bachelor’s Degree in Protestant Theology course of study or have a Minimum two year’s prior experience as a paid or volunteer religious education teacher.
- Shall have experience in the area of management, of a multi-religious education program is preferred.
- Have the ability to supervise, train, and mentor volunteers.
Have the ability to multitask within the job description while effectively providing appropriate support to the overall MCAS Command Religious Program.
- Shall have a minimum of two years prior work experience in a military chapel environment that successfully demonstrates capabilities of meeting requirements for professional standards for chapel programs supporting personnel as specified by requirements SECNAVINST 5351.1 Professional Naval Chaplaincy Enclosure
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Required for the Christian community of at MCAS, Beaufort, SC.
- DRE will provide Christian education for children, youth and adults key to spiritual growth and development.
- DRE position requires experience as a religious education manager, organizational and leadership ability commensurate for the position.
- Shall work under supervision of the Command Chaplain and in cooperation with staff chaplains, chapel staff and volunteers develop and organize a vibrant Protestant Christian Religious Education Program fostering a spirit of Christian community.
- Under supervision of the chaplain assigned as Protestant congregational pastor, Organize and oversee Children’s Church.
- Shall serve as the director for Vacation Bible School in cooperation with the Catholic Coordinator of Religious Education who will serve as the assistant director. Recruit and train volunteers and facilitate a lessons learned review of the program/event with all volunteers.
- Provide a written after action report to the Command Chaplain.
- Be prepared to discuss and provide a report of trends with chapel staff.
- Organize and facilitate, under supervision of the chaplain assigned as Protestant congregational pastor, for weekly Bible Studies, Adult and Children Sunday Schools, Baptismal classes, after school weekly programs and any/all Protestant or joint religious education chapel events.
- Organize and provide supervised volunteer support (when needed) for weekly Bible Studies, Sunday School (both children and adult), and all Protestant or joint religious education chapel events.
- Be the liaison with the Command Religious Program (CRP) to help execute Chapel outreach programs that are not faith specific. (i.e., Cookouts, Harvest Fest et.)
- Organize various types of fellowship meals/opportunities throughout the year and on special occasions for the Protestant Community.
- Prepare materials and articles for submission to the chapel Religious Program Specialists for advertising Protestant Chapel events to the MCAS community.
Hours and Performance:
- This position is not to exceed 28 weekly hours.
- DRE is expected to be present on Sunday Morning, Monday (Staff Meetings), and have a flexible weekday schedule, which can vary week to week, but no more than 28 hours.
