Cornell Health’s Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS) offers confidential counseling and psychiatric services, designed to help students with mental health concerns that may be affecting their quality of life and ability to learn. Our providers include psychiatrists, psychologists, social workers, counselors, nurses, and nurse practitioners from diverse cultural and clinical backgrounds. CAPS providers value students in all of their individuality, and are committed to welcoming all people with respect and sensitivity. Our providers regularly collaborate with Cornell Health’s diverse array of healthcare providers as an integrated service that support both the mind and the body.

The Psychiatry team in CAPS provides evaluation and medication management for complex students mental health needs. This role provides diagnostic and pharmacologic treatment to students, including prescribing and monitoring medication for psychiatric illnesses as well as educating students about their illness and medication. In addition, Psychiatrists provide consultation services to, and collaborate with, staff across Cornell Health including counselor/therapists and medical clinicians, to ensure continuity of care for each student that utilizes our services. When needed, they will also assist with the management of psychiatric emergencies.

  • keeps current on best practices for providing psychiatric care in order to promote health and mitigate risks
  • fosters strong working relationships with healthcare professionals across disciplines
  • has excellent documentation skills that are timely to support continuity and clarity of care plan across team members
Required Qualifications:
  • M.D., D.O., or PMHNP with current NYS license (or license-eligible), with 2 - 5 years of experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Knowledge and use of an electronic health record management system and Microsoft Office Suite
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, with knowledge and sensitivities appropriate to working with a highly diverse, young adult population.
  • CPR-BLS level certification achieved within one year of employment and maintained biannually, as applicable.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Interest in and concern for health problems encountered in a campus community, including medical and mental health issues and areas where they intersect.
  • Special expertise in key areas of risk in a college population, such as suicide, substance use, and disordered eating.
  • Knowledge of non-pharmacologically-based interventions for mental health, and recognition of when and how they should be integrated into a treatment plan
  • Ability to coordinate with colleagues to maintain continuity of patient care and ensure the appropriate management and treatment of medical problems when not physically present at the health center.
  • Proficiency in Mandarin, Spanish or any language other than English highly desirable
