Overview:
The Purchasing and Inventory Manager, Manufacturing is responsible for leading the local Purchasing team at our manufacturing facility in Elmhurst, IL. This position, under the direction of the Senior Director Manufacturing Sourcing, is responsible for managing the local purchasing activities, as well as creating, maintaining and implementing an inventory management system for the manufacturing operation. This position works closely with the production team and the Senior Director of Manufacturing.

Responsibilities:
  • Plans, develops and implements local purchasing procedures and processes to ensure sufficient inventory on hand, maximize efficiencies and optimize the utilization of purchasing team
  • Creates, implements and maintains a successful inventory management program to mitigate unplanned issues due to inventory-related shortages and maximize inventory space in the facility
  • Ensures inventory accuracy through regularly scheduled cycle counts
  • Maintains files of warranties, manufacturing specifications by vendor/supplier along with relevant contracts, service agreements and records
  • Establishes purchase order processes and procedures for accurate tracking of goods ordered and received, checks quality of goods received along with timely processing of vendor/supplier payments
  • Ensures quality of procured items and addresses problems when they arise
  • Ensures vendor shortages or delays are communicated across internal teams to allow for resolution
  • Schedules deliveries and ensures timely fulfillment of orders
  • Evaluates vendor/supplier performance utilizing vendor scorecard
  • Researches, identifies and evaluates vendors to compare pricing and services
  • Builds and maintains relationships with internal teams, local vendors and suppliers
  • Coordinates with managers to monitor inventory and determine supply needs
  • Keeps up with trends in procurement
  • Stays current with purchasing technology and assists with any required purchase and implementation
  • Ensures purchasing team members are following safe practices throughout the work day and while working on the production floor
  • Ability to work in a non-climate controlled environment
  • Responsible for maintaining discretion related to all confidential/sensitive company and customer information
  • Performs other requested tasks and duties as required
Qualifications:
  • College degree in Business Management or Sales, or comparable industry experience
  • 5+ years’ supervisory experience, delivering excellence in a fast-paced manufacturing environment, or equivalent combination of experience, education, certifications
  • Based in Elmhurst, IL
  • Ability to travel 20% a year, based on the business needs
  • Experience in wood component fabrication and manufacturing is a plus
  • Experience managing teams to ensure delivery of continuous improvements
  • Proven track record coaching, mentoring, motivating and managing employees' skills development
  • Experience proactively leading and coaching teams to solve problems utilizing industry-standard improvement processes.
  • Experience setting business targets to drive and sustain growth and profitability
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
  • Knowledge of OSHA regulations, ability to maintain strict adherence to safety rules and regulations including consistent use of PPE and adherence to safety training by self and purchasing staff
