Job Summary

The R&D Data Engineer is energized by challenges and uses creativity and Lean Six Sigma principles to solve difficult problems in product and process development. They are tenacious in working through obstacles and collaborate with a cross-functional team to create and improve our ordnance products and processes. The R&D Data Engineer is responsible for collecting and analyzing all the data created during our development processes, and ensuring that projects comply with ISO 9001.

Primary Responsibilities

• Implements and validates predictive and prescriptive models, creating and maintaining statistical models with a focus on big data.
• Incorporates a variety of statistical and machine learning techniques.
• Writes programs to cleanse and integrate data in an efficient and reusable manner.
• Leverages a variety of structured and unstructured data sources, analytics, AI tools, and programming languages to derive meaningful data insights (e.g., Python, R, Spark, TensorFlow, Jupyter, etc.).
• Works in an Agile, collaborative environment and partners with other scientists, engineers, and consultants to bring analytical rigor and statistical methods to research and development challenges.
• Communicates with internal and external clients to understand and define business needs and appropriate modelling techniques to provide analytical solutions.
• Evaluates modelling results and communicates the results to technical and non-technical audiences.
• Collaborates with the rest of the technical team to ensure applications align with the organization’s goals, as well as customer needs.
• Remains current on technology trends to keep our software as innovative as possible.

What We Will Train

Design Development Activities

• Supports Design Verification and Validation activities, including review of verification and validation protocols and reports.
• Ensures that new projects follow established engineering procedures.
• Monitors execution of test plans and sample builds, ensuring that all needed data is collected and removing roadblocks as needed.
• Defines receiving inspection requirements for raw materials used for R&D projects and ensures that raw materials are properly inspected and inventoried.
• Works with product and manufacturing engineering to define specifications for new products.
• Reads and understands customer requirements, product drawings and specifications and provides written interpretation for performance.
• Understands, is able to generate, and oversees the timely completion of quality documentation required for new products and processes.

Improvement Activities

• Applies systematic problem solving and improvement concepts in a team environment to resolve quality issues.
• Uses their expertise and experience in working with the customer to consult and support engineers in method development for new quality inspections.
• Prepares test plans for conducting experimental trials to support improvement efforts, including any required Management of Change (MOC) documentation, work instructions, maintenance work orders and subsequent Capital Expense Requests (CERs).

Customer Interface Activities

• Customer point of contact for all quality topics for assigned programs. Maintain excellent customer relations.
• Coordinates sample shipments including preparing shipping paperwork, coordinating with the shipping and receiving team, and ensuring that shipping packaging meets all regulatory requirements.
• Provides routine, accurate reports to senior management and program team members, as required.
• Tracks improvement on R&D projects using SPC data.
• Works with engineers to perform time studies and regular audits of MSPIs .
• Works with engineers to create and improve data collection capability.
• Participates in all areas of Armtec's quality management system.
• Maintains the highest ethical standards, even when challenged from above.
• Understands and lives by Armtec’s ethics and business conduct policies.

Qualifications

• Familiar with Data Engineering techniques (gather, prepare, cleanse, and transform client data for analysis and AI automation, including automating data pipelines).
• Knowledge/Experience with Reporting Tools like Tableau, Power BI etc.
• Six Sigma Green Belt preferred with 1-5 years of industry experience. Recent graduates with some internship experience are also encouraged to apply.
• Ability to program in at least one of the following languages : Java or Python,SQL, Hadoop, Spark, Pyspark, Tableau, Power BI, AWS/Azure/Google cloud knowledge,Java, SQL, Spring Boot, Spring Cloud & Microservices, ETL Tools,snowflake.
• Basic understanding of statistical programming in a language such as R, Python, SAS or Scala
• Exposure to analytical software such as Minitab, SAS, SPSS or MATLAB is highly desired
• Ability to thrive in an ever-changing, research and development environment, using agile development techniques
• Must be dependable, responsible, and accurate and have the ability to deal with people effectively.

Education & Professional Work Experience Requirements

• Bachelor of Science degree
• Some coursework in computer science, information systems, or other related fields
• 1-5 year relevant work experience with a proven track record
• Must be a U.S. Person

Work Hours & Travel

4/10 workweek with some overtime on Fridays or weekends as necessary, to meet program objectives.

Some US travel may be required, normally a few multi-day trips per year.
