Job Description: Registered Nurse Operating Room (OR) - Elmhurst Hospital & Edward
HospitalShift/Hours:
Elmhurst:
Day Shift: 6:45am to 3:15pm
Day/PM Shift: 11am-7:30pm
*FT: 36-40 hrs/wk
Variations of these shifts may be considered for the right candidate, i.e. 10hrs 12 hrs.

Edward:
Afternoon shift: 2:30pm - 11:00 pm
Night Shift: 11:00pm - 7:30amHoliday/Weekend Requirement: Weekends:
Elmhurst: Rotating weekends required. Weekends are considered Saturday/Sunday. Michelle will be sending more details on current frequency of weekend rotation.
Edward: No weekend requirement

Holidays:
Elmhurst: One work holiday and one call holiday, 8 hr shifts, per year.
(4th of July, Labor day, Memorial day, Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Years)
Edward: Assigned to a holiday track. Michelle will be sending the unit holiday track schedule. It is rotating.
On Call Requirement: Elmhurst: 35-45 hours per month.
Response Time: 30 minutes
On-Call Rooms?: Yes
On-call pay rate: $4 per hour, pay rate when called in is time and a half.

Responsibilities: Provide care to the surgical patient, gather sterile supplies and instruments needed for case, circulate case which includes prep and positioning, assist anesthesia, document surgical record.

Edward: RNs will be only circulating. Scrubbing training is currently on hold.
Elmhurst: RNs will primarily be circulating, may scrub but not a focus.
Must Haves:
License: IL RN license
Certification: CPR/BLS from American Heart Association or American Red Cross.
Experience: Edward: Ideally 1 year of experience in the OR, but will consider a new graduate who is engaged and wants to learn. They must have a passion for the OR and be able to articulate it. If they did a clinical rotation or internship in the OR that would be good. Next new graduate start date is August 22nd. Elmhurst: Same as Edward except August 22nd is an ideal start date not a requirement. They can be flexible.
Education: Associates Degree or higher in Nursing.
*If Associates Degree in Nursing is the highest degree held, must graduate with a Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing within five years of position start date (effective September 1, 2021).
Preferred: Prior experience in acute care setting preferred. Ideally have OR experience.
About the Units:
Beds: Elmhurst: 16 Edward: 18
Patient Population: Varies across the spectrum, some peds, most adult population.
Common surgical cases & approximate # of cases per day:
Elmhurst: Common surgical procedures are bariatric surgery, total joints, spinal fusions, robotics (gyne, general, urology)
Edward: Gen surg, ortho, Neuro, Uro, GYNE, plastics, ENT. 50-70 cases/day.
Scrubbing, circulating, or both?
Elmhurst: Primarily circulating.
Edward: Both preferred, not required.
Nurse to Patient Ratio: Day shift- 1:4-5, Night Shift- 1:5-6
Are there any opportunities for growth? Clinical Educator, RN Clinical Coordinator, Clinical Manager, Clinical Director. There are also many opportunities to sit on committees.
