At the Arc Otsego, a residential Registered Nurse (RN) is responsible for providing general nursing care to assigned individuals and in conjunction with the Physician identifying, treating, or referring medical concerns to appropriate medical service providers.
The Ideal Registered Nurse (RN) will:
- Provide all primary-nursing duties as directed by MD orders, Federal and State Regulations, Agency Policy and Procedures and OPWDD ADMs.
- Complete required documentation on a timely basis: t-logs, GER reviews, etc.
- Complete annual nursing assessments for each person to include an annual self-medication assessment and review of health for the past year. Notifying the Health Service Coordinator and the Primary Care Physician of changes. Other tasks that may be included are nutritional evaluation, physical exam as needed.
- Accompany people to medical, specialty and dental appointments as indicated. Complete information sharing.
- Assure medication reviews are completed every 6 months for individuals we serve by qualified person.
- Certify staff members have successfully completed the approved OMRDD Medication Certification Administration Course.
- Provide ongoing staff training for health and wellness issues as needed.
- Assure current MD orders for any medications being given, and treatments provided.
- Provide emergency first aid and triage when needed.
- Share Telephone Triage/OCN rotation. Complete documentation regarding calls.
- Complete TB assessments annually for people with a +PPD status, or exempt from having TSTs.
- Complete annual Diabetes In-service (article, video – may be a web based). Provide proof of update.
- Maintain own CPR recertification.
- Complete other nursing duties as requested by supervisors.
Requirements of a Registered Nurse (RN)
- Capable to relating to developmentally disable people in an appropriate and sensitive manner.
- Understanding and functioning according to the stated goals of the program and to the team process system.
- Current licensure in New York as an RN.
- Valid New York State driver’s license.
- Ability to frequently lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
