The Blood and Marrow Transplant inpatient unit is seeking new graduate nurses with a desire to join our premier multidisciplinary team at one of only 51 National Cancer Instutute-Desginated Comprehensive Cancer Centers in the country. Nurses on this 16-bed acute unit provide care to adult patients with hematologic malignancies undergoing stem cell transplant or cellular therapies such as CAR-T (Chimeric antigen receptor) therapy, a new and innovative treatment for several hematologic malignancies, including Non-Hodgkin Lymphoma. Nurses actively participate in clinical trials and novel therapies. With many cancer patients experiencing extended and repeated hospital admissions, nurses are able to connect with patients and families, and greatly impact their care and outcomes.

On the Blood and Marrow Transplant inpatient unit, you’ll learn to administer advanced cancer-fighting therapies and earn an Oncology Nursing Society Chemo/Biotherapy certificate. You’ll administer blood products, monitor and treat patients for specific disease or treatment-related toxicities, and provide supportive/palliative care to a challenging and vulnerable patient population. Delivery of effective, compassionate cancer care depends on a knowledgeable, strong and dedicated team, and the nurses on this Oncology unit are essential to achieving that mission.


What You Will Do:

We are seeking Registered Nurses (RN) who will be competent in the skills/knowledge required and fully participate in unit governance. He/she will practice and adhere to the guidelines specified in the UMMC Professional Nurse Job Charter. Independently provides and coordinates care provided to patients within a clinical specialty. Serves as a fully effective and participative member of the multidisciplinary patient care services team.

  • We are a close-knit unit that works as a team.
  • Nurses are viewed as colleagues in our partnership with the medical team with a multi-discipline approach to care. This includes providing integrated care working with the physicians, social workers, pharmacists, and nurse practitioners.
  • Our patient ratio during the day shift is 3:1. You will have the opportunity to build relationships with families and many times patients will return to the unit to give updates and say Thank You.

What You Need to Be Successful:


Qualifications

  • Graduation from an accredited school of nursing, with a Bachelor's degree in Nursing preferred
  • Licensure as a Registered Nurse in the state of Maryland, or eligible to practice due to compact state requirements outlined by the Maryland Board of Nursing
  • Less than one year of experience as a registered nurse
